Hi to All
I've been reading your advice and posts for a while now and I'm very impressed with the knowledge and support that everyone shares on this board. Now I am writing to ask if anyone knows why this strange thing is happening.
I was in the midst of recording and everything sounded all right for a while and then suddenly my voice sounded like Donald Duck's cousin--thus the title for this post.
I am using Audacity, a compaq computer, a studio projects c-1 mic, and a mobile preusb.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Kathy,
first off welcome to the board
Now, onto the problem. Do you happen to have a clip that highlights the problem?
I can't speak for the folks here, but hearing the "donald duck" comment, I can't help but to think of vocal strain, but I think you're referring to a gear issue. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Thanks for the welcome! The sound that I'm referring to is a speeding up of the voice (I think). I have a clip that I can post, but I'm not sure how to add it to this board. All of this is new to me--as I'm sure you can tell. Any help you offer is greatly appreciated.

Possibly something conflicting with your soundcard...telling your audio program to record in a different bit rate than you think you are in. Has anything changed on your settings? I know there are people who can help you with this much better than me, but it does sound like it's a setting issue. Is the whole file sped up or just parts of it? |

Did you save the file - then do some work on another file in another format - then go back and listen to the original recording? I get that speeded up sound when I am working back and forth between different formats. The computer thinks that I am in PCM 8bit when what I want to play is a mu-Law file. It kind of freaked me out at first - and I still don't know th technical reason why the playback sound is so different. Once the file is opened again in the proper format, it sounds fine. _________________ Playing for a living...

Wow! thanks for the advice from everyone.
This is very random--starting smack in the middle of the recording. The first part is ok and then it speeds up for no apparent reason. I found everyone's advice to be helpful and it's reassuring to know this has happened to others.
Thanks again.
