...that 'cause I'm from Illinois, I'd naturally be for Da Bears in the Super-Bowl...
I can't believe no one's started a SuperBowl rant here, yet... maybe that's a measure of how little interest there is in this game. I'm already sick of it. The game is on CBS -- that's my station here in Vegas -- and we've been hyping it all week.
'Game starts at 3:25pm here on the left coast...but the pre-game starts 6 HOURS BEFORE THAT!!! What the $%@# are they gonna do for 6 hours that's gonna be good TV (relative term at best).
And PRINCE?! for the half-time show ???!!! What nursing home did they spring him from???!!!
But back to my original point -- There's Chicago and then there's the rest of Illinois. You come to resent Chicago if you're from the "rest of Illinois" also known as "Downstate". 'Cause they have the most political clout and suck all the state's resources to fix roads that are constantly under construction and can't be fixed anyway due to the lousy weather in the Winter.
In the last election, Chicago went for Kerry, and pretty much the rest of the state was for Bush.
There's this invisible demarcation line about half-way down the state that separates the St. Louis fans from the Chicago fans. So about half the state is for the Cardinals and the Rams.
So why am I for the Colts?...it's not that I love Indianapolis...it's just that otherwise, I'd have to root for the Bears.... and that ain't gonna happen.
my 27-cents worth

Dave,
There is a game, what game?
I thought the pre-hype shows started last Monday? At least, that is what it seems like to me...
I have my sights set on "the Clydesdales" (had to choose an animal ya' know).
Toodles

My husband & I are Hockey fans, so I actually only found out who was playing today (when I called a raving Football fan buddy to ask him who HE was rooting for....so that I could root for the opposing team! - just becuase!)
So I'm with your Courvo: GO COLTS!
We probably won't even watch.
...before being a caregiver my husband & I found out that SB Sunday was one of the best days to go skiing! fewer people on the slopes! ...but now no weekend coverage to mom-sit....
Oh well...

Ad trends for the next 8 months may be determined by viewer recation to the stupidest themes and reasons played between 11am and 11pm EST Sunday.
This year, the do-it-yourself ad fad will be tested. There's the new Pepsi slug-line and 34 new can designs. Coke will officially debut their new super animation spots that were successful in Europe. Several Superbowl ad regulars are changing ad direction this year. Each year, it's less and less use of famous VO artists. For nearly $2 million per spot, the ad co's have done some research as to how to reach the target audience I would hope.
I understand this year, the local CBS affiliates were asked to do their own Superbowl promos to run during local breaks.
Billy Joel singing the National Anthem and Prince plays half-time. Who are they talking to here?
Believe me, I will be taking copious notes trying to figure the trends and directions.
I'm in the "commercial" business.

It's nice to see Payton finally go to 'the show'. I hope they win. I can't believe he's been playing for 10 years. |

I have often said if Illinois were split into two states (North & South) Southern Illinois would have a Green party Gov. (and, yes, I capitalize the "s" in Southern - because I think it's the most important part) _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I know the feeling, Frank. The last few years, there's RARELY been another game after the Patriots' last game of the season (aside from the pro bowl, of course). _________________ Greg Littlefield

When I worked at UPI, Southern Illinois (with a capital S) was our style. It was stipulated in the stylebook. I think Southern California was the only other region that got similar treatment.
And, hey, you guys: No Chicago/Downstate wars on the VO-BB. It's a great state, from Anna to Zion. Chill.
By thy rivers gently flowing, Illinois, Illinois... |

Meh... by default I have to root for the Bears (dad was from Chicago). That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Manning finally get a ring.
I'm more interested in the commercials as the RUMINT (Romored Intel. for the uninitiated) is that something I recently did would be aired during the game.
At the least I know that the spot airs today (it's by Honda). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

14-6 after 1 quarter for the Bears! We had 2 solicitors come to the door in the first quarter alone...guess they knew I'd be at home _________________ Ralph Hass

It's good to know that there's interest in Kelowna, Ralph. Very cool.
