Hi Everyone,
My demo producer sent me a Pro Tools setting file for a plugin we both have. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it into Pro Tools, and getting my producer on the phone isn't easy.
The file has a .tfx extension and I have brought up the plugin settings in Pro Tools and tried the Import Settings option. The problem is the file is grayed out so I imagine that isn't the right place.
If it helps, here is my configuration:
Mac Pro
M-Audio Firewire 410
Pro Tools M-Powered 7.3.1
Vintage Warmer plugin version 2.0
Thanks,
Rich

Hey Rich (welcome on board BTW!)
Are you REALLY SURE your demo producer uses ProTools LE or M-powered like yourself? If he uses a ProTools HD rig there's no way his TDM plugin settings will transfer onto your LE RTAS-settings... I hope this helps. |

Yeah I've verified it. One thing I did notice is that when I bring up the browser in Pro Tools, the settings file has an entry that says plugin not installed. I wonder if we're using different versions of Vintage Warmer or something. I guess I will just follow up with him tomorrow. Thanks for the reply and welcome. |

Save the file to your desktop (it's better to use a default directory tree you create so you know where they all are, but this will work for now).
Open your session and insert the plugin you need on the track on which it is needed.
Click on the plugin to display it's dialog.
You see a button labeled "<factory default>" with and up/down arror to the left. Click on those arrows and select "Import Settings" Local your file and your settings should now be populated.
Click "<factory default>" now and you should receive a list of settings which you've just imported.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I determined it was an issue with my producer having an old version of Vintage Warmer whose preset file wasn't compatible. Typically in the PC world an incompatible file would still allow you to attempt to open. This one is grayed out which is odd to me.
Either way, I got it worked out by just going over the settings on the phone today and making my own custom preset in my studio.
Thanks again,
Rich |
