Do most voice artists leave their LO, MID, and HI settings at zero for the majority of recordings? _________________ "Bailey"

I think it really depends. When I am auditioning I will apply compression, EQ, etc. For the final read I leave that up to the producer. If they will be doing all of the post production I will give them an unprocessed read and let them do their magic in post production. |

Most of the time I leave things a 12 o'clock high at the request of the producers, so they can sweeten things on their end. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

it depends. I do ask the question, but regardless they get a clean read (often as a separate copy... just in case they didn't like my take on it), in addition to whatever EQ or compression I used.
It's easy to add something to a take (compression, EQ, effects, etc.), but it's not so easy to take them out, so use your best judgement and when in doubt, keep it clean. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Agree with Yoda. As a general rule, you want to record as clean a signal as possible. _________________ Jeff

I nearly always ('bout 90% of the time) record everything flat.
However, I do have a couple of customers that I do take the liberty of sweetening things up for them a tad as they do no post whatsoever. _________________ . If at first you don't succeed, then bomb disposal probably isn't for you. |

ok, but I assume you still record flat and then sweeten in post before giving it to them... _________________ Jeff

ANAL TECHIES DO NOT READ OR HAVE MEDICATION STANDING BY
Remember that your room, mic, lead and chain will all add something to the EQ and other audio qualities .....OH NO! Now what are you going to do?
I think that improves things! |
