Well despite the technology hicups, we all got together for a brief 40 minute chat. Some from home, some from their car, some from across the Atlantic. Thanks to everyone. 14 callers for a total of 499 minutes in all.

Here's the recording:

Tele-Conference 2-18-07

(PS I posted this here because I think there's valuable information here for all)

I was lucky enough to be on-hand for the maiden voyage...what a hoot! Very worth while project.

Dave

P.S. Seems I heard several people mention they were using Skype. I've tried it in the past but it played havoc with my audio settings. If you're a Skype user and wouldn't mind teaching an old dog the new tricks it would be great to visit with you.

Dave,

I just finished listening to the recorded round table. Very enjoyable. I have been out of town this weekend so I wasn't able to join live. Here's hoping there are more sessions in the future.

I can show you how not to use it. I've mastered that.

I guess I missed the invitation - can we make it a bit more obvious next time around?

Listening right now - and have enjoyed your comments Philip - quite excellent advice. The key is being able to actually hear what he is describing. Self-evaluation - knowing what actually is coming out of your mouth.

I interviewed a top agent in LA last year and he concurs that it is important to know your own unique sound...especially if you are competing in the larger markets for the larger jobs.

If you are working in the smaller markets, you may need to be able to offer more "variety" in your sound - many of my contacts are from producers seeking a different sound because the voice(s) in their market have become saturated.

Interesting how this covered two completely different ends of the voiceover spectrum - one unique signature sound (with nuances) - and the need for many unique characters....and yet your real core person still needs to be there.

Thank you all so much for your questions and comments.

Dave,

Kudos in abundance to you, Mr. Christi, for organizing, moderating, recording and posting our discussion today. It was great fun and I'm so glad I was able to sneak away from my convention for that time.

Also, a great load of gratitude for Mr. Banks for sharing from his deep well of experience and insight.
