Hello, all. Every once-in-a-while, I obsess over a recording I owned when I was just a tot. I've done some Google searches and have come up empty. There was one vague reference to a doll and the record of the doll speaking and singing. Apparently, the doll's creator recorded the LP. (??)

Anyway, I remember it being kind of sweet, and odd - just the kind of thing I would have appreciated as a kid. The voice on the record was my friend. When I think back the voice was, perhaps, a bit self-conscious - as if the woman wanted to sing intimately (as the doll, oo-OOO-oo) to children, but there was a microphone in front of her. (????) Maybe that's just something an old memory is inventing.

If anybody has any info on the recording of the Teri doll (not sure of the spelling), I would love to track this down. It would be great to hear it again as an adult - or whatever I am. I think it is circa very late 1940-something or early 1950s. I thought, if ANYBODY might know this, 'twould be y'all.

Thanks in advance.

I sure know what it's like to have fondness for those LPs we spent so much time with as kids. I still have most of the ones I grew up with.

Was there any connection with the Mighty Mouse gang and this doll? Mighty Mouse, Heckle & Jeckle and those guys were under the aegis of something called Terry Toons.

I just did the Google again and the general info was more readily available than the last time I tried.

The doll is Terri Lee. Apparently there were numerous 45s and LP recordings. Looks like the doll is being re-created with retro outfits.

Maybe this is why I'm in voiceovers. I had a record. I didn't have the doll. Talk about disembodied voices.

I did have a Chatty Cathy. I recall she developed a nasty stuttering problem. Early rap. Something about being dropped on her head as a young doll.

Hey! I could have let Cathy stutter, and done that disco DJ thing, scratching the Terri Lee recording.

I wonder what Terri Lee would have said if the recording were run backwards. Probably, "Don't listen to anything that Chatty Cathy trollop tells you."
