I'm considering this one too and I know a few of you use it. What are your thoughts? Does it produce a clean signal?
My only concern is that the USB output only supports 16 bit 44.1 and I like to record in 24 bit. Has this been an issue? _________________ Jeff

Get the firewire board if you can. It is much better. I know some people (music store owner friend of mine) that have said the USB board has not worked well and was returned a lot. I have had no issues with my firewire board at all.
I don't use the pre amps on the board so I can't speak to the quality there but all else is good to go. I just use it as an interface. The 100 Alesis effects are pretty cool...I don't use em...but nice to have them in case I need a small board for a live event or something. _________________ Ben

yikes, the firewire version is double the price!
But I see it rcords at 24 bit 48 which is preferable for source. argh, decisions, decisions... _________________ Jeff

Jeff,
I have a multimix USB8....and it's ...OK for VO. I run an additional preamp and by-pass the mixer's preamps and it's great. If you don't need a mixer, I would invest in a simple interface only box.

Actually I don't need the mixer at all. I just need the audio interface. I previously used an Mbox 1 before it went on the fritz, so I'm not sure what is comparable in terms of pre amp quality. _________________ Jeff

Jeff,
I use the Alesis Multi-Mix8 USB -- and like JoWillie, I use it with a pre-amp, and love it! 'Wasn't even aware of the limitation you mentioned...never noticed, and never got a complaint from a client. Isn't USB 2.0 as fast or faster than FireWire? Anyway, never a glitch with the processing. It delivers a clean signal.
Went to that combo after getting frustrated with the Pro-Tools/M-audio (not Mbox) set-up.

And you connect your mixer to the computer via the USB, Dave?
Mic > presonus preamp > mixer > computer?
Why not get a mixer with preamps and USB connectivity in one box like the Behringer 1204? _________________ Jeff

Yep,
Mic----> TubePre----> MultiMix8USB-----> Computer.
What's a Behringer 1204?

If you need a mix board with "decent" preamps, look at the newer Mackies.
A few VO folks have good experience with the Edirol UA-25 and like their preamps and interface quality.
check out http://www.podsqod.com/2007/01/ and at least scroll down and listen to the program on the Alesis interface. He talks about several others.
My experience is about to persuade me that "the simpler--the better."

6 of one -- half-a-dozen....
Love the PreSonus TubePre. I use it with my M-Audio Firewire Solo too... 'thinkin about upgrading the tube inside, though.

Yessir, indeed. Didn't mean to poo-poo your setup. Just trying to figure out what's best for me... and my wallet. _________________ Jeff

JK,
I hear that...no offense taken.... it amazes me the wide spectrum of arrangements everyone here puts together according to cost, preference, matching-to-voice, and more.
Let us know what you decide.

Dave,
Did I miss where you said which PreSonus preamp you use? I'm curious because I'm thinking of a similar setup: Mic > PreSonus preamp > Firebox > Computer.
Thanks!
