My wife and I needed to ask about a car seat for our daughter. So, I pick-up the red phone at Target, hear a familiar voice and press one. Sure enough, within 60 seconds a man in a red shirt is there to help me in my endeavor. Immediately upon his arrival, that same familiar voice chimes in on his walkie-talkie trying to verify I have been accommodated. Then I say to the gentleman "I know the woman who voices those announcements." He gets this big grin and exclaims "You know the Target Lady?!" As if he wasn't sure there actually was a live human being behind those sultry tones who asks if someone is available to check the status of the restrooms. "Yep, I sure do. Her name is Connie." The expression on his face was a look of contentment, as if he could die now, knowing that computers haven't replaced everything. (Okay, so I made that last part up. He did seem impressed, though.)

Now we know Connie Terwilliger is affectionately known as "The Target Lady."

that there's a LoveNote (tm)

did you get a car seat after all? i ask because i did. not with the help of the target lady. in fact, there wasn't even a shopko maven. harumph. i was so proud of my purchase, though, after being confounded for a long while. hell, i even called todd for advice (among a cadre of others).

no i didn't pop one. i have a BF with a 4 y.o.

might i continue with the threadjack (so early in the game, too!)?

i got the pink one with butterflies, a booster seat since she's growing and fast!

when i asked her about it ("what color is it?") she said "pink."
when i asked her "pink with what?" she said "cup holders" !!!

i had showed her those and how cool they were since they slide out for easy use. now she can travel with two PBRs.

A name drop? Hell yeah! Connie is great and I am proud to know her. I found it fun to know she was referred to as The Target Lady and interesting the way he asked about her. We are, a lot of the time, a dis-embodied voice. And when someone finds out there is a living person connected to that voice, who has friends and family... a life, they kind of step back a little and think about it.

So I guess the shorter list would be "Where is Connie NOT heard?"

And yeah, Dan, I would name-drop, too. I was just teasing Todd, when I thought, ya know, Todd actually made the post. It's amazing how jokes can really fall flat when you screw 'em up.
