I've been toying with the idea of putting a "for hire" ad on Craiglist. Assuming the ad was professional-sounding, does this seem like a valid course of action or does it come across as "bottom-feeder"?

I think the problem with advertising on Craigslist is that your ad doesn't really have much staying power. People don't usually browse through the lists more than a page or two and on a busy list you'd be out of viewing range in a day.

I've seen it done. Not four days ago, I read a post in the SLC listings, though it was in the wrong place. (If you do post about your services, post under'services.') I replied to the local lister, telling him I "collect" male voices since I'm asked on occasion to recommend someone. He didn't respond. Truth is, I really wanted to know who posted the info. (Anyone? Anyone??)

checking the Raleigh one there is a male VO that has posted his website everyday for the past several. I also found a female VO posting her site one day.

I have a friend who teaches an Improv class who has used Craigslist quite successfully. The problem is that you have to post your ad often, sometimes even daily.

Let us know if anything good comes of it.

Sorry... it's a quote from "Silence of the Lambs". The killer "collects" women (or at least parts). He keeps them for a while in a pit in his basement. It's a phrase he repeats to one woman.

To get BACK on track... advertising is advertising. I really enjoy Roy H. Williams. He recently had an article on his Monday Morning Memo about alternative ways to advertise.

Here's the audio:

thanks all, I think I'll give it a shot. It's free and can't hurt. Just gotta refresh the ad every day or so.

I have a soft spot for good old Craigslist, since I met my significant other on there and we've been together for a few years now!

Anyway, another line of promotion can't be a bad thing. It is free! It just probably won't be as effective as, say, securing representation with a few more agents.
