I can't figure out what's wrong! Here's the scenario:
My client had me do voice prompts at a Sample Rate of 8000 and saved as a 'vox' file. No problem.
Then he asked that I find a female to do the same, and she sent me the file as a vox, I individualized the prompts and saved them to a folder as a vox file. But her quality is markedly different (very bad).
The Properties of each audio file are the same from what I can tell. Somehow, though, hers just don't sound the same. Mine are louder and clearer, and hers have an "echoey" quality, even after normalization.

There could be any mumber of reasons for this. Suggest you have her send you the raw files and you convert to vox and 8000 to remain consistent.

I'm thinking this is what happened. It has been "double converted". I should have had her send me .wav files (or mp3) and then I convert to vox (as you suggested).

Thanks for the input; this phone audio format is really frustrating and it sounds like CRAP.

The 8000 kHz sample rate, vox format is a consistent bugaboo in our line of work. There have been several discussions here about it-- the archives may be of some assistance.
