'Got my new Blue Snowball today from Sweetwater.
'Decided to take the leap based on many positive unsolicited comments from others at VOICE 2007 who've used it for their portable system.
I haven't even plugged it in yet... any caveats from current users? There was no software with it.... I guess I expected drivers or sumpin'.

dave - in my experience, it's a great little road mic. you DO have to work it pretty close, though.
and, if you have to, you can chuck it an an attacker! _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Do not forget to download the "gain applet". The litle program does wonders for the Snowball.

Frank - where might one find this "gain applet" of which you speak? I suppose I could search for it - but it would be so much easier if someone would just tell me.

Dave? Have you tried your Snowball yet? Do ya like it? Is it easy to use? I need to get a good 'beginner's mic', but sadly, neither Playskool nor Fischer-Price have a USB version available. Darn the luck.
I also heard several people at VOICE talking about the Blue mics, and planned to get one myself, but then thought, "Eh. I'll let Dave do the research."
Just wondering.

I bought a Blue "The Ball" mic the other night. It looks like the Snow Ball but it has an XLR jack rather than USB -- and it's blue. It's a funky phantom powered dynamic mic -- yes, a phantom powered dynamic! Within second of trying it out I absolutely hated it. Way too much bass emphasis, very small sweet spot, low signal level. I had to EQ the #$@! out of it to make it usable in a mix. I took it back to the store for a refund yesterday. I did find a good cheap mic in the M-Audio Nova. See my post elsewhere in the Gear section. |
