here are a couple of postcards i have done:
they were, however, VERY focused as to market. i ended up getting a great long-term gig out of the Christmas Card.
roi for postcards (from the research i read) is about 1% - about the same as email. i send an average of one per quarter to my core for TOMA if nothing else. it has worked for me - your mileage may vary.
also printsmadeeasy.com is pretty good. 300 4/0 cards for like $30 ... cheaper than printing them on an inkjet (at least for me) _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Amy,
That is brilliant, (just like pretty much everything else I've seen you do!) _________________ Be well,

Amy,
Awesome example! I SWEAR I did not see yours before I did mine! _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Here's how I did it for mine...I went around online and looked at websites of artists...hundreds of them.
I made a short list of the ones that fit the style I was looking for.
I contacted them, and told them I was looking for a designer to create the artwork for a CD as well as some coordinated postcards (I wanted to do three different designs) and asked them to provide pricing and turnaround time.

Lou is absolutely right! You do NOT have to spend a lot of cash. What's important it that the resulting artwork is up to professional standards. In fact, once you've chosen an artist whose work you love, you can let them know that you'll be sending your CDs and postcards with their art on it to hundreds of advertising agencies. (You were planning on doing that, right?) Offer to put their name (a small credit line) on each piece you print, and once they realize how much exposure they'll be getting, they might be willing to drop their price.
Plus, Lou has OBVIOUSLY learned his lesson in terms of branding. His cards are unique, noticeable and instantly recognizable. Without even reading the card, recipients know exactly who it's from. They get his marketing message whether they want to or not.
On the flip side, look at the examples that Todd posted. They're nice, good-looking cards, but you have to look very closely to realize that they're from the same person. (I don't mean to pick on you, Todd.)
One of the keys to effective "post-carding" is consistency. The more easily the card can be identified as yours, the more effective it becomes. Make them interesting, funny, compelling, (or whatever) enough, and people might actually look forward to getting them. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

I was poking around today online and found this website.
Guru.com
Has anyone else used this site for creating graphics/branding/etc... ? _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

This was my first foray into mailers. I used Vistaprint.com to design and order them.

Update:
Hey, this Guru.com is pretty cool! Much like V123 and Voices. I put up a request for design work with a few details and received a bunch of bids on doing the work from a number of different graphic artists / illustrators. Now I get to pick through which I like and award them the job.
It sort of gives me the view from the other side of the glass. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

You can also bid on VO gigs there, too. I think you have to be a "Guru" or "Vendor" to bid.
I'ts been a while since I've been there. _________________ Dave "Christi" Felton

Nope, I bid all the time and don't have a membership beyond the free one. Of course, I've never actually landed any gigs there.... _________________ Jeff

Amy,
I absolutely LOVE your postcard!! Agreed - VistaPrint is a good way to print them.
