I'm sure anyone who has ever worked in radio and/or TV can remember reading a weather forecast or newscast and then later, when asked what the weather will be for the day, has no idea. I know it used to happen to me more often that I care to admit. Well, during a narration session today, something similar, yet even scarier happened.

I was about halfway through a 60 page instructional script, when my cell phone rang (I know, I know, I can't believe I forgot to at least turn off the ringer). Anyway, I apologized and let the call go to voice mail, then turned off the ringer. Well a few seconds later, it vibrated again, so I ignored it and just kept reading the script. Then it happened again, and I ignored it again and continued on.

Well, for some reason I started thinking about whether it could have been something important at home, or perhaps school calling about some emergency with my son, or...whatever. My mind was going through any number of scenarios. Anyway, before I knew it, I had read another two pages of the script and the engineer was asking if it would be okay for him to take a short break. I quickly snapped out of it and said "sure".

Now I can remember occasionally not being totally "into" a script, but that's the first time I can remember reading a couple of pages of something while totally on autopilot.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has done that.

100% focus, concentration and professionalism at all times .... Well, that's the plan for the day before I get out of bed. Never quite pans out like that.

You got it, Banksey. To me, professionalism during the a.m. dog feeding just doesn't happen.
Don, I was about never able to recall any weather forecast I ever read that day when prompted by so-called friends.

So-called is right...real friends never ask about the weather.

I have no idea what that means.

It just means you're a REAL pro!
...never happened to me during a during a session, but it did by day four of a trade show when I was answering/interpreting (English to French) the same questions for the 500th time!
