Anyone had any luck with these guys?
I am trying to find out if a couple of different addresses in So Cal have ISDN service available. AT&T was able to tell me instantly what they had for service and the cost of it.
I can't reach anyone in Verizon who knows about ISDN.
I called the residential side since it's for a house or apartment and after 10 minutes of bullshit prompts and waiting, they told me to call the business side. So I called the business side. Another 5 minutes of holding and prompt crap, and then I'm told to call another number entirely for small business service.
Another list of rubbish to listen to and then I'm told via recording the office is closed, call back at another time. Closed? at 11am Pacific time? WTF people?! No "closed for lunch", "closed until 2pm Pacific time", no specifics, just "closed".
Has anyone had any luck with these guys for ISDN in So Cal?

Deidre-
Par for the course with Verizon. I used to always have problems with them in my former life.

One thing though, do you know if the addresses you are inquiring about are in Verizon's service area?

Yep.

Unfortunately, I don't have a way to get a service area map from AT&T.
I'd just avoid the parts of town that are serviced by Verizon.

I kept checking on line with Verizon to see when it was available in my area. It was, then it wasn't, then I called up to switch over for regular service from MCI (what a mess that was) and I got someone who signed me up right there.

they used to have a box on the front page of their website where you could inquire about service. Not sure if it's still there. I have been very pleased with the service.

This isn't DSL, it's ISDN—and it's for broadcast, not broadband.

I think Verizon put in the ISDN line at my studio here, but I don't handle the billing for it.

Most places in Hollywood—Westwood seem have the possibility of ISDN, but I don't know how far away the CO's are from the addresses I'm checking out. And because I can't get a covereage map, I need to call about each address I'm considering.

I was only aware of AT&T (SBC). I did a quick search - ISDN service provider CA and got these:

http://www.cwo.com/html/high_speed_isdn.html - They list SBC-AT&T as who would actually be the provider.

http://www.ariel.net/ - they have ISDN listed on their website, but the phone number seems to go to a home not a business. This came from this next link - an old page with lots of companies, but I think most do not do ISDN anymore.

The problem is that So. Cal is diced up into a bunch of providers. Now almost anyone can put in an ISDN for you, but the actual connection (Local Loop) to the house or office will be provided by the company that is the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) for that area. That makes it very difficult for automated provisioning systems to work.

As for availability, ISDN is available at more than 99.5% of every postal address in the US. It is not sensitive to distance the way DSL is. So unless you are talking about an address that doesn't have a 7-11 within 25 miles,
You will be able to get ISDN.

Well, I beg to differ about the amount of availablity of ISDN service. I have a 7-11 within 3 blocks, but cannot buy ISDN service. But then again, I am in Utah.

My condo in Salt Lake City cannot have ISDN, it is also in Utah. My sister in Lo Cal. also cannot get ISDN - I have tried. She lives in Diamond Bar. Ann's brother in San Diego cannot purchase ISDN. A friend in Westwood, cannot have ISDN; nor are his parents, also in Westood able to purchase ISDN.

70% of Nevada does not support ISDN. 63% of Georgia does not support ISDN. 46% of Florida does not support ISDN. 71% of Idaho - now does not suoort ISDN. Many more Eastern cities are losing the availability of ISDN service.

The numbers of ISDN availability areas are decreasing rapidly as the cost increases for support, lack of technical knowledge by the CLEC's and RBOC's disappears, and more and more taxes are being put upon ISDN services. I could go on, but the thing DB should look into is calling ISP's (Internet Service Providers) in the area. This will quickly reveal who does and does not have ISDN and where it is or is not avaialble. The ISP's will also be able to provide information regarding the CLEC who does have service - if it is available.

ISDN is an analog service and depends upon analog lines for the protocol. Most phone companies are heading toward digital telephones and lines. Fiber Optic lines will be prevelant in the near future - at which time ISDN will be completely obslete.
