SO...I auditioned to narrate a corporate video today. I quoted them $500 for this 15-20 minute video and they were fine with that. I was asked to sing during my audition and they liked it so they may want me to sing on this video, too. Should I factor singing into the quote? If so, how? Or should I be happy that I got to belt out a song from the musical "Chess" in front of somebody and leave it at that? _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

Man, I wonder!
When it comes down to it, time is time, but singing is a "specialty".
Would you charge extra for a 2nd language?
I think it's kinda like that. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I'm not sure being a decent singer is any more of a talent than being a good voice talker (sorry my singing friends), so I think it would come under the same rate.

Didn't you already quote them a price?
Or did they ask you to sing after you quoted?
I think DB is right in that it is a specialty, and as and a Bi-Lingual VO, I DO charge more for French.

I would say that if "singing" is an additional request... there should be an additional charge. You could use the same time factor as the origional script, or possibly a charge per word. If you provide the music mix... an additional charge should also be factored in.
And of course... if you are wearing a tuxedo during the song, and someone throws a vegetable at you or spills a drink on the suit... cleaning charges should be considered. _________________ "Bailey"

This company is releasing a new product and this is their marketing director's first time doing anything like this. I'm inclined to leave the quote as is unless they start making unreasonable requests. I was more interested in starting a dialogue than adjusting my quote! _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

you should do with what you feel comfortable doing, but i agree with everyone that you should charge something extra for the extra work you have to do.
question? how much singing is involved? that could also determine if you want to charge an additional fee. _________________ Jim Feldman

Did you quote your rate before or after you were asked to sing? You see where I'm going with this question? Singing may require a fair amount of extra recording time.
cheers,

I have no idea how much singing may be involved. I haven't seen the entire script, either. My quote was based on script length and approximate studio time (2-3 hours). I'll keep things as is unless the singing involves excessive studio time. _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!
