|

Shouting out from Tokyo! Some of you met my friend Michael Rhys recently in Vegas. Sorry I missed it!
Anyways...I'm currently using an M-box1 with a Grace 101 pre and RME converter. What would be the relative advantages of getting a Digidesign Digi 002 (or 003) LE Rackmount FireWire system? Would I still want to use my Grace and RME? Or would I sell those off?
Here's what I got so far:
Pro Tools LE 6.9
Digidesign M-Box
Grace Design 101 mic preamp
RME ADI-2 AD/DA converter
Neumann U87ai, Neumann TLM 103, Studio Projects C1 mics
Yamaha MSP53A monitors
Waves Native Power Pack; Waves Musician's Bundle
Power Mac G5
Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Tell me WHY you're interested in the upgrade?
Are you recording several sources at once? _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Hello Tokyo... Greetings from Utah, USA.
Why change, unless you must. You have an RME, a great "ADDA"; the "pre" is a Grace - what can I say? You have a U87. What more do you need? Maybe a C-800GPAC, but, that microphone is not necessary, just a dream to work behind.
Until such time as ProTools does not support the M-Box, unless you do not like your current sound - why spend money you do not need to spend. If you do not like your sound, then consider other options. In other words: "If it works, don't fix it!"
My $ 0.02 USD worth...
Toodles

I'm with Frank on pretty much everything...
save for the C-800. Despite the hype, I never liked it.
seriously though, there's really no need to upgrade with your current setup. Maybe add a tube preamp, eventually... but what you've got is more than enough for most any home VO right now. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Thanks for everyone's input! I guess I'm a "gear slut"—always looking for the next upgrade and getting the best sound I can. Perhaps I should just invest in a larger music/SFX library and more VO training.
I saw the Aphex Aural Exciter 204 mentioned somwhere...can anyone vouch for that?
And what would be a good tube pre-amp?

The Aphex 204 is a nice unit if you're looking to to sonically enhance your material. It'll boost harmonics but not the overall signal. It's more of a "sweetener" than anything else.
