my office here uses it to filter. I went out on a location shoot yesterday and today, sites I visited tuesday are filtered as "uncategorized" what the heck is that, guilty before proven innocent??

I like to visit Nino Gianotti's efplighting.com (great film/video lighting tutorials, he's responsible for the "look" on ESPN classic. my own websites are "uncategorized" so I can't visit them, as are most VO talents, the vendor we use for closed captioning... this is just crazy! what does "uncategorized" mean in Websensespeak? and how do they get categorized?? Websense is notorius for this, they block Gambler anonymous type sites, as "Gambling" sites. I work for a state agency that deals with criminals, we try to do research, and sites that may discuss sex offenders, are filtered as "sex" sites. c'mon, really??? I've emailed IT, but no response.
(typical)
sorry I just had to vent.

I feel for you sir!
We had a "reset" of our "websense" account a while back and it even blocked our own City site! Quite anoying! But they resolved it in a couple of days.
Keep on um pal!! They will get it sooner or later!

Well I learned something thru the grapevine this afternoon. They apparently sent an email to those they felt important enough to get it (not moi?) They have it set up to block those sites that Websense has not categorized (like oh, Bob Souer's blog, all the vo websites I could think of, a state funded Child Support web site.. doh! etc) but you can forward the url and a business reason why it should be cleared, thru your supervisor and they will unblock it.

guilty until proven innocent... this is gonna be fun... let the deluge begin!!!

completely backwards. Some suit must have gotten his/her noise out of joint over something. So now, I and others go online to do research for our jobs, get blocked at certain websites, (not sure if they are valuable or not) have to email thru several layers of people to get access, and then they wonder why we miss deadlines?

government, ain't it loverly?

Bill,

Whatever your political views regarding Ronald Reagan, one of my favorite quotes from him:

"Some of the most frightening words in the English language are 'We're from the government and we're here to help.'"
