Hi all,
Since I'm a newbie and also curious, I was wondering what's the best, and least obnoxious way, to watermark an audition sample. (Not that I'm really worried that anyone would want to use my stuff). Since I didn't know any better way, I mix the dry voice with a slow click-track about 15 db down (shaken, not stirred, so as not to bruise the voice).
When you're done laughing, let me in on your methods.
-Roger

I do something similar. I have a repeating 1 second tone the plays every 5 seconds at about -20 db. A really savvy engineer could probably gate it out, but it would be more work than it's worth. _________________ Jeff

I change the words of the demo copy slightly...and then let the client know I did it, so they know I did it on purpose & that I'm not a complete idiot!

Roger,
I usually just do only part of the script, and then note that fact with my audition so the potential client knows what I've done. _________________ Be well,

Thanks guys. Great ideas.
And Liz, no one could ever take you for an idiot or they'll have to answer to me.

Similar to Bob Souer, I use a DTMF tone-set (1,2,3) at about -30 db with a random time sequence in the demo. Like Liz, I also change the words in the copy - also similar to Liz, Bob, and Jeffery I let the client know my little changes... very nicely I might add.
However, anymore, I do not do may "demo's" (I guess it comes with age - hehehe). When clients call they usually know me, my voice, and my capabilities. (Is that good?)
Toodles

I concur with Liz. I change copy. But when you're auditioning for something with nothing really changeable except the company name, I hesitate because they want to know how you're going to say their precious name...so I need to get a good default noise to put in..perhaps my baby screaming in the background??? |

i put a slight 1k tone in the mix about every 7-10 seconds or so. can't be too careful these days. and i send a low quality file. they might be able to get the tone out, but the quality is so low it definitely is not air quality.
i also sometimes only read a portion of the script _________________ Jim Feldman

I use a wood thrush song. Even if it's for a non-North American client! Especially if it is - because of course they wouldn't dream of using the read if it contained an avian blooper!! |

Who would have thunk it. So many ways to skin a cat. Very inventive folks.
Thanks,
-Roger
Don't let this end , I'm sure there are even more.
I've also got a question on the Learn Forum you might try your hand at. |

Ugh...that gal is brilliant. As I read the initial post I wondered how I would do it and didn't think of that one. Who would of "thunk" it? Well she and some folks have but not I.
Now my forehead hurts from hand slappin' it repeatedly. Lesson learned.
Thank you. Now where's that aspirin? |
