|
|
Got a call from a friend who's doing sportscasting and would like to record team radio spots from the comfort of his home via laptop or desktop. I'm thinking a USB mic is a good way for him to achieve this quickly with little hassle.
Could I trouble you for a suggestion or two of a quality USB mic that can plug directly into a computer for ready-made VO?
Many thanks! _________________ Joe Szymanski

No personal experience with it but I have heard good things about the Rode Podcaster.

I also have Blue Snowball. It's OK. for auditions on the run, or podcasting. Quality isn't hugely wonderful, and has a high frequency response with my voice. _________________ Bobbin Beam

The Samson C03U sounds really good. Full and not sibilant. Noise is about the same as most regular condensor mics. I own and recommend it. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

hey Bill, out of morbid curosity, how long have you had your Samson.
It's a popular mic amongst the amateur VO crowd (don't read too much into that statement please), and a few have had quality issues.
Have those been taken care of as of yet? Considering your recommendation I am assuming that the answer is yes. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

We've used it for over a year. My wife uses it when travelling. She is a major market radio imaging voice. No complaints from the clients.
It sounds almost as good as the TLM103 in our studio, although it generates a little more noise, though within acceptable levels.
It's almost disheartening to think that this USB mic can sound so good for $130 versus $900 for the Neumann.
Never had a problem with it. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

I'd like to take a serious look at Samson's latest. The GM1U G-Track looks kinda cool and has line inputs right in the mic.

O.K. Guys -- I just got a snowball mic and here's the weird thing. The thing works with my WavLab Lite program but I can't seem to get it to work with Reaper shareware or Audacity. I'm not very techno and don't know where to look or what to do to get the thing to work with Reaper and Audacity. Any suggestions? I am considering going out and getting software but will look at the posts on the other threads. Right now I just want to get this mic to work with the free programs I already have loaded on my computer. Thanks.

Todd, Thanks for the firmware update link. You're so great!
Arlene, as far as I know, the Blue Snowball as a usb mic only records using Windows recorder. If I am mistake4n, somebody PLEASE tell me, I'd like to be able to use mine with Protools or Goldwave.
I could be completely incorrect....But I think you must first record using windows recorder , save as a wav in the PCM format desired, and then open up the wav and edit in your other audio processing software. _________________ Bobbin Beam
