|
|
hi all, I haven't posted in an aeon and haven't had chance to log and and read for a long time, but i wanted to pass on this warning to vos - though it applies to everyone.
If you own a .com and do not yet own the .org and .net etc. I would advise you purchase them to protect your brand. This past few days have been challenging but interesting. A flamboyant client called me and mentioned the opportunity to co-brand, in which i was interested but nothing finalized. Within 30 minutes of our phone call (my first with him, i had only received an email from him shortly before) he had purchased my .orgs - which I stupidly had not bought.
He then pointed it to a website containing content with my name in it, linked to his website. What if my clients, looking for me on the web, came across his site first - and contacted him instead of me?
When I expressed concern and asked for him to return the domains, he got extremely pompous, saying it was "fair game" and he would only let them go "because it was me". - and a lot more than that but it's not worth the effort or your time to repeat it. He says he has cancelled the domains.
You can be sure I bought up the remaining .nets pretty quickly.
So, at the very least this can be a headache for a few days, at worst, it could have ended in legal suits, ICANN and UDPS and goodness knows what.
In speaking with ICANN and UDPS this type of occurrence is more and more common. For just a few bucks you can protect your brand name.
Be safe!
Big Hugs and sorry to be a stranger so long, Deirdre! |

Katrina! Long time no see/hear...was thinking about you the other day actually wondering how you were doing. Guess being too busy to check in is a good thing? _________________ Playing for a living...

I discovered that some bonehead has db-cooper.net.
I used to have DBCooper.net myself, but I let it go several years ago being penny wise and pound foolish. Now of course some domain hog has it.
I bought a bunch of domain names last night. Yipes. What a racket. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Yep, I got me my .nets and waiting on the others now.
I use GoDaddy too. Great customer Service. Good Prices.
Hi Connie, I was thinking about you too, and then came across you on Facebook!
Funny how that works.
Still looking as lovely as ever.
I got into Facebook a couple of days ago, but again, I don't know how much time I'll have for it!
And yes, it is a good thing I am so busy, but I THOUGHT when I moved to Australia I would work my clients from 2-3am, work til noon then go beach - being as though we live there. It never happened. I just get up at 3 and before I know it it's 8pm and beddy byes.
Still, as we all know, doing a job you love in your own space is a luxury, so I'm not complaining!
Big hugs all around everyone. |
