Hi folks. Rather than re-type everything in my original thread from way back when, I figured I'd copy/paste with a new link, as there's another one available on ebay for cheap. I have no knowledge of the seller, so the usual ebay caveats apply.

I noticed this listing on eBay and thought that some here might be interested. I picked up an older model (TMP-636) a couple of years ago and I just tested it again and it seems to do the trick. I don't do a great deal of phone patch stuff, so I couldn't justify buying a Gentner or even a Symetrix TI-101. On those rare occasions I need to, I'll admit that I often just use a telephone headset to hear the director, but this does work both ways and at the very least it enables me to play audio back down the line for the producer to hear. (There's also the added benefit - legalities notwithstanding - of being able to record both sides of your telephone conversation with the cable company, credit card company, telemarketers, ex-spouse, ex-spouse's lawyer...)

Anyway, I have mine patched into my mixer so I can route the phone as needed by either patching it pre-fader if I just want to hear the director or just panning it opposite the clean mic if I want to record the director as well, for later reference.

I don't do enough phone patch work to make buying a hybrid worthwhile.

If you have Skype, route the signal to and from your mixer and suddenly your mother has a brother called Robert.

Its not perfect by any means, but as a work around its fine........and its never let me down so far.

My old boss (the author of that article) may be disappointed, but I chose to just buy the Dynametric thing. I'm a big fan of plug and play and I certainly don't trust myself with a soldering iron.

I think there may well be a use for a 'and Bob's your self' generic phrase, might be potentially tricky in the wrong hands though.

I reread the thread and Bob's your uncle, I got it. Took me long enough even after reading a couple of tons of British police procedurals.

So how did "Bob's your uncle" become a synonym for "suddenly"?

Its a bit of a weird one, its 'suddenly' and 'there you go' all in one.

According to Brewers Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, - It means 'everything will be easy when you have done this' and came from the promotion of A J Balfour when he was created Chief Secretary for Ireland by his uncle Robert (Lord Salisbury). Balfour had previously been promoted several times.
