I appreciate it when I'm told that I've been shortlisted for a project. Even if I don't get the gig, it's nice to know that I was considered seriously for it.
On the flip side, I find myself getting antsy until I find out. My agent told me I was shortlisted for a nice project on Friday afternoon. Now I have to wait all weekend. Geez! _________________ Dave "Christi" Felton

I know what you mean. It gives one a very satisfied feeling...but having to wait all weekend long can be a bit draining. Need some distraction to keep from obsessing over it. _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

I guess I am too old, fat, and sassy.
I no longer even bother with thinking about "short lists". I just continue on my merry way and if I get the gig - great; if I do not get the gig - great.
I am too long in this business to take things personally anymore. Let life happen as it will.

Aha! Me too.
I did what we call a "Honban Audition" on Friday. Two of us went onto the studio to record the corporate sound logo for a TV commercial. On Monday the corporate suits choose which of us they will use. At least I'll still get the basic session fee, even if I'm not the happy recipient of the fat cheque winners fee.

I'm so lucky I'm not in that position! No short list to be nervous about. No auditions to worry me. No potential gigs causing me fear. How ever do you guys deal with the stress of it all? _________________ Jeff

I don't personally find it at all stressful. I usually just audition and not even think of it again unless I get the gig.
It's just a bit distracting (as is the case with me this weekend) to be put 'on avail' on Thursday for a gig that works Tuesday. Fingers crossed that they don't go with the guy who joins me in the final two.

Email from agent - "You're on the short list for a session on Thursday with Marcus from *****".
Email to agent - "Just checked my records. Marcus is not on my shortlist for a session on Thursday, ask him if he'd like to be added and I'll see what I can do"
Email from agent - "I love you " |

I used to run into those a lot in the 90's. A whole gang of people would be called into the same studio to audition live in front of agency personnel. We called them Shootouts because whoever was left standing got the gig, and usually that day.
What's honban mean? |

I got one also this Friday...asking for my take on a very nice sized gig. It is nice to be noticed by a client when they specifically ask the agent for your take on a script. But.....I tend to obsess about the read when it happens (ie. the audition takes way too long to get out...especially when it's a really big gig). _________________ Ben

Oh boy- can I identify! 2 WEEKS ago I was told I was on the shortlist for a gig I want VERY badly. I have no idea when the callback could happen, if I'll still be on the list by then, and how it will take place. If I get the callback and eventually the job, I'll have only a short time to decide if I'll be installing ISDN in my house, or blocking out several weeks at a local studio. I'm doing my best to not think about it...but it seems to just be sitting in the back of my mind. My expectations are low...but my fingers are crossed!! _________________ Threadjackers local 420

I've got my fingers crossed for all of you - good luck!
But to misquote somebody - great gigs are like buses - there will be another one coming along in a few minutes!

Deebs, that's simply trading one stressful situation for another (at least for Bills fans). _________________ - Peter
