Here's a lead that just came in on V123...bold added by me.
Quote: | This is a local :30 TV spot for the Houston market. The client is a discount store that competes with the national chains. The feel for the spot should be national. It needs an energetic, fast read. |
Fast - is an understatement...here is their script...
Quote: | At Solo Clearance Center, our prices are so low you can’t afford not to buy new! We save our valued customers hundreds, even thousands off retail prices on name-brand refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, LCD and plasma TV’s and more every day!
Everything we sell is new, guaranteed, and comes with a warranty and on-site service. Our products may have slight blemishes, but if you can live with a scratch, dent or ding you can buy new at used prices!
So, what’s the secret to saving big? Go Solo, where the prices are so low you can’t help but save money!
Solo Clearance Center, “seventy-seven hundred I-45 North, Houston! |

I received the same "lead". I looked, noticed the price, and quietly deleted the project.
The best part of this was the fee of $150.00. For a national "sounding" spot???? With that copy???????
I give up.

I had to diagram the sentence to understand it. |

Maybe the Solo Clearance Center needs to get in touch with the Solo VO Services... where the prices are also so low you can’t help but save money! _________________ "Bailey"

I deleted it. Too much copy... not enough money. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Sigh... Why do so many advertisers believe that the right voice will make sub-standard copy interesting?

Oh yeah? Prove it!

Will your CHEAP crap break down in 6-months?

So is everything your competition sells.

Oh boy! Dented AND it will break down in 6-months! Blah Blah Blah.

Are you still talking?
Quote: | Go Solo, where the prices are so low you can’t help but save money! |
Oh! I get it. It's a play on words! So Low. Solo. (I should watch Star Wars again.... did Han really shoot first?)

How did I get ketchup on my shirt?

Yeah, that national feel...of Uzbekistan. I'd rather go to that place that's just like a Mini-Mall in Montgomery than this Citadel of Scheisterdom.
I can live with dents and dings, I can't live with Mr. Announcer Guy shouting and hyperventilating at me for thirty seconds because Mr. Clever Trousers is under the delusion that he can write snazzy copy. |

I tried to go for a "national feel". I got slapped several times and my wife was very angry with me. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.
