Wow! Lots of replies on this one!!
Jeff, yes, you're right, I believe you did suggest that the anti-virus software could be an issue. But, I guess when my computer guy mentioned it, my "aha!" moment referred back to the first time I was given that advice, which was when I bought this stuff from Sweetwater. It's amazing how forgetful I am at only 35.
As for ProTools, it's what I have, and I'm using it! It literally took months, with help from a vo artist here in town when he was available (you can hear him on NBC at night doing the promos... so yeah, he's busy, but was kind enough to help me when he could!!) and many many trips to the local audio store for cables, etc. to get all of this stuff (computer, MBox2, Zephyr, Symetrix, Sennheiser mic, Behringer board) set up and working. I'm not about to screw with it. Seriously. I don't even touch any knobs. The only thing I touch are the knobs on the board, and even at that, only certain ones. And, I can change stuff on the Zephyr... that's really straight forward.
I have a lot to learn about my equipment, I know. I'm just not ready to start playing around with it. I'm still tired from the set up process.
Why did I get this equipment, including ProTools? B/c those folks I know in the industry told me this is what I should get, b/c it's what they have experience with.
I have to admit, on the occasion I'm asked what equipment I have, people are impressed. I do think it helps to portray that my studio is "professional" (even if I am still learning how to use it).
Chuck, thanks so much for the tip on AVG. I'll look into that!!!! Good to know!!!! _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Out of curiosity, what came in second?

The list went like this:
Pro Tools 28%
Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro 26%
Sony Vegas 14%
Steinberg Cubase 8%
All others 24% (Including: Audicity, Sequoia, SAW, Wavelab, Sound Forge, Sonic Studio, Sadie 3 and 4, Discreet Edit, WavePad, GoldWave, AudioEditor Pro, Blaze Media Pro, MGWave Audio Editor, Easy Audio Editor, Bias Peak, Cakewalk, and others).
*The poll had 3763 respondents. Questions ranged from what is your product (music, voiceover, advertising, video, etc. to what type of pre-amp do you prefer...)

When recording here at Casa Blanca usually McAfee AntiVirus is running in the background as is Outlook and Internet Explorer. Never had a glitch. Must be that my laptop was personally blessed by Mr. Dell or something.
Actually, I lie, come to think of it. There have been glitches but only when the ignorant operator (me) uses the hard drive in the laptop instead of an outboard hard drive. |

I've been an AA junkie since 97... when it was CoolEdit96. Never adjusted to anything else, even though I had to learn and use basic ProTools in school. Didn't do it for me. Just figured I'd chime in with my opinion. _________________ Donovan

Caryn,
Do you have an outboard (Firewire or USB 2.0) hard drive which your audio is recorded onto?
In many cases; even when using anti virus programs, this will resolve your problem - not always however. (Thanks CWToo for reminding me of this simple fix).

LOL.... Donovan.... I liked your Pyrex... funny!
Frank, no, I don't. I've considered buying an external hard drive, but just haven't done it. Another thing I could use recommendations about if anyone has any (not inciting a war, here, just askin' -- I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff).
BTW, I was just driving home from the grocery store, and thought, wow, what a great group of people... I just love you guys!!!
