DB, not everyone is using XLR cables, which kind of eliminates Monster unless you resplice them.

Those tuschel 7-pins are a real pain somedays, lol!

Guys & gals..... hold on a minute. I'm working on a DEAL if you really want that model of ribbon mic.
Also, there are minor modification that can be made to greatly enhance the range of that particular Chinese mic.
(Although on voice, the ribbon is usually better for long narration. And phantom power can damage some ribbons. We'll check all that.)
Willie.

The New El Diablo by Crowley and Tripp Now with Roswellite! Looks like another nice mic by the Crowley and Tripp folks. I wonder how well it would sound for VO?

I'm sorry, but I want one of these Cascade mics because it looks so damn cool:

It says you ought to use a pop filter with vocals, but I'd hate to hide it behind anything. I promise not plosive my ribbon mic, Mommy, I promise! Can I have one??!!

The DR-2 Does Not require or want Phantom power (Phantom power can damage the ribbon).

Shocked I like a microphone that knows what it wants!

I want one too...

yes after I posted I looked again and noticed you said you used one. How was the sound anyway? Nice presence? shiny highs? Punchy lows..smooth all the way through? etc?

Well, since I was playing with it in the middle of a convention hall, filled with people and recording gear, it's kind of tough to say.

It's no RCA 44 or 77-Dx, but I really liked the sound I was getting out of it, rather smooth, with a nice clean high end. It gave me a better presence than I am used to when I use a ribbon (since I'm at the upper end of the male register, ribbons aren't my first or second choice when it comes to mic selection).

I'll definitely be spending some quality time trying one out in March when I head back to Boston. Sooner, if I can get the chance to pop into Tony's place in Brooklyn Smile

I emailed Cascade and asked what they recommended for VO and the CEO replied:

I would suggest the Victor...it offers a nice bottom end:

Brett,

For the sake of forum decorum, resist the temptation to do one of your photo posts here, please. Laugh
