Hi Gang,

This is kind of an "all-purpose" demo; mostly narration but with some commercial elements....I will be producing a strictly commercial demo with Nancy Wolfson in the next few months.

This is designed to fill the bill until then. It is probably not going to have the range of a true commercial demo, but hopefully you will hear some range and contrast. I just couldn't stand my old demo any longer.

Thanks
Rob Ellis

The first element shows off your voice, but is not engaging copy. It doesn't really catch my ear.

The 2nd piece has quite a nasal sound and is unbelievable— cars for $995 with an inventory reduction sale? Is that a real spot from somewhere?

In the 3rd piece, the Arthritis segment, you are very compassionate. I totally believe you care, and have valuable things to share.

4th— about framing. Competant narration, but I hear you hitting your R's awfully hard. Overall, the delivery is a bit bland.

the cut between this bit and the next is abrupt.

The Final piece about door glass is over-sold— it sounds like you're trying to "add emotion" to copy.

Rob— You have a fine sound. Good ability. You need some dramatic coaching to help you get connected to your copy more. Most of what you have here is OK, but isn't good enough to compete, and doesn't really show off what I believe you're capable of.

Thanks for the feedback....I guess this is what can happen when you try to produce your own demo.

The car dealer cut is real and is from an actual TV spot that I did. I have a radio version that is less nasal.

I'm training with Nancy Wolfson so hopefully the acting part is improving, but there's obviously still room for much more (improvement, that is)

Since I will be producing a new commercial demo with her in February, I may just not send any generic demos out between now and then and do only custom auditions. I hate to not be continually promoting, but at the same time don't want to cause damage by circulating a demo that is not truly competitive.

Thanks Again, DB! I really do appreciate an honest evaluation( as opposed to what we call a "whitewash evaluation" in Toastmasters) I'm also glad to know that you believe I'm capable of better!
