Meet Lis an established and very experienced broadcaster and journalist. A dozen or more years ago I was working as the Continuity Announcer for a commercial television station and late one evening Lis was to present the last news bulletin of the day. She did the job and left the building without a call from the boss or any comment of note from anyone. For once only a comment from someone would have made a difference because it was a first time for Lis.

I finished work at about 1am and the non-event was on my mind. As I worked freelance for this company I was in and out on an ad-hoc basis but by pure chance I was booked to be back at 9am. On my way to the studios I stopped at a local shop and bought a bottle of Bollinger champagne, a bow and a gift tag. On the gift tag I wrote "Well done. Last night you did a great job, from here the only way is up". When I arrived at the studios I went into the newsroom and without a fuss handed Lis the bottle.

This coming week, find a Lis and tell them "Well done. You did a great job, from here the only way is up". As a human being you HAVE to do it. Yes, Bollinger( or that type of gift) is expensive but Lis, Dave, Homer, Polly, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all are worth it.

If you're a selfish, self seeking b*st*rd and most Voiceoverists ARE it'll take your mind off that particular character trait for a while.

Thank you Philip. While I don't have a bottle of Bollinger let me be one, if not the first, to say Well Done Mate...you did a great thing.

For those of us not quite flush enough to be handing out bottles of Bollinger with our accolades, a fifth of Freixinet, or even a chocolate chip cookie will do. This is a case where it really is "the thought that counts."

I'll be looking for a Lis of sorts this week. Let's see how long I have to carry that box of chocolate chip cookies around.
Yes... compliments appear to be an encouragement for the soul.

I got home today and found a dozen bottles of Bollinger on my doorstep.

But they were all empty.

Thanks for nothing, guys!

Seriously, though, that's a nice thought, Banks. I'll try it sometime.
