Dave,
Great to have you join us on THE Forum. We hear tell of other forums, but are not sure of their existence.
Actually, I did run into you on another forum (sorry, Deebs, it was before my conversion) and you and Scott Pollack had kind words and good suggestions on my demo.
You'll love this place. The greatest people around. Just like family.

This is where personal taste collides with a pro' demo or on Dave's case, pro demo's.
You are a good voice over, Dave. My problem is that i don't like your demo's.
Demo one is over processed. Demo two, too much production and not enough Dave. Demo three had nothing I could grab on to. I listened for less than 30 seconds to each demo and didn't feel inclined to continue. You need to get some other opinions as I firmly believe this is purely a matter of taste.
Because what you have done is not the way I'd do it YOU'RE ALL WRONG! Which of course is ridiculous.
A few years ago I believe I delivered the funniest performance ever, it was a character voice for a TV series. If any friends ask to see it, my wife will leave the room .... Are we talking "hates it"? Oh No! Hate REALLY doesn't cover it. |

Hi New Dave -
I listened to your natural delivery demo. I love your sound. I don't have any criticism of your VO & delivery - it's very appealing. My only criticism is of the content and order of that demo. There are too many restaurant food spots for one demo, and after the spa piece, I wasn't sure if the rush-rush-rush script was part of the "where do you want to go for dinner" piece. I didn't like the latter - the kid was kind of distracting (great kid, just a bit too smart-alecky and for no discernible purpose). Also wasn't sure if the Kit Kat thing and the white gravy thing were connected, and the white gravy should have stopped after the first "you had me after the white gravy".
Summary - love the sound & delivery, would recommend a bit of housekeeping in the demo itself.
Will listen to the others in due course.

In looking at this thread - it appears that the actual first request you made was overlooked in all of our welcoming messages! Ah, thoughts on your demos...
I, too, have heard your work over on Savvy and see you as a talented voice guy with good production and writing skills to boot.
The Natural Delivery demo is the one I listened to in the time I had. While I like pretty much each piece as an individual unit - when put together I was left a bit breathless. There is a very fast pace that doesn't let up until the very end. (Oh, and on the demo you posted, the end of the second white gravy is cut off.) I also heard the same crisp mic in each spot.
So two overriding comments. Find a few more things to help slow the pace and/or move you closer to the mic for more initmacy. And use some sort of production filtering or EQ to alter the sound of the mic. Imagine that you recorded the spot off the air onto a VHS tape and then dumped that back to audio. That kind of "sound." The sound of being "on the air." _________________ Playing for a living...
