What the heck!!
Everything was fine yesterday. Today my left channel LEAVING the Mbox is gonzo-gone.
Everything is spiffy leaving the Mackie, goinmg INTO the Mbox.
This is problematic because the left channel apparently feeds the mono track in Pro Tools.
I have tried different USB cables, Different ports in the computer, swapping the lines leaving the board into the back of the MBox.
Nuthin'.
I'm heading to the DUC, but I'ma restart my computer first. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

vooDoo Update:
I wrote a request for help on another board (another KIND of board since we all know about VO boards in the space/time continuum) but as did, I tried something else with the Mbox unit.
The Mbox housing is a plastic piece of sh!t and the face of it broke off its one tiny screw almost as soon as I got it.
I have had 2 rubber bands holding the face of it onto the housing, so I took them both off, looked inside the unit, put the face back on with ONE rubber band and now it's OK.
What
the heck. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

You scared it. Known cure for many things incl. Mbox hiccups.
Sorry for not responding yesterday - I just assumed you had already tried that. |

Lucky you didn't threaten it with duct tape... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Seriously, I wonder if there's a piece of metal on the inside of the face plate that was making contact with some other piece of metal that it shouldn't otter have been touching? Maybe loosening up the faceplate broke the contact... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

First rule of thumb in engineering: "If it doesn't fit, grab a hammer and make it fit. If it doesn't work after making it fit, use rubber bands. If it still won't work, get out the duct tape." (Or as some people call it "Duck Tape").
Toodles, and good going DB!

Yep, mine's held together with duct tape too. But having been born into "a life in the theatre" I call it gaffer tape.

Talk sternly to it, then point out
a) the bin,
b) the shiny new thing in the magazine and
c) the kids have said they would like it.
It usually comes round in the end. _________________ www.davidmonteath.com

David,
Thank you for the good laugh this morning.
And Deirdre, I'm glad to know your unit is working again. I hate equipment problems, especially the mysterious kind that seem to have no explanation. We had one at the Billy Graham Association the other day, when our Pro Tools HD workstation would boot up but nothing would come up on the display. Turned out to be a monitor power chord that had given up the ghost over the weekend! _________________ Be well,

Deebs..glad you got it working again. Yeah the build quality on Digi's boxes as been getting more and more "Fisher-Price like" recently. When I got my MBox2 I racked it right away. The rubber band thing would drive me crazy.
Too much shakey ground for this reporter. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Hey Chuck,
I have no experience with "Fisher-Price like" Digidesign stuff. If you refer to Geardre's Mbox(1) that actually is a very nicely built piece of equipment. I have an Mbox1, an Mbox2 and a HD2 Accel rig, but very relyable and sturdy stuff in my opinion. Maybe some client from hell asked our beloved Deebs to drop her rates... instead she dropped the Mbox...
Remember what I said Geardre... my offer still stands should it ever become neccesary at all. |

I was thinking Mbox2 compared to 001 or 002...or the older 888 i/o's.
More plastic than there used to be. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Edo— I love your studio kitty!!
Actually, the design for the Mbox 1 case is VERY Fischer-Pricey in that the plastic collar that holds the single screw for the faceplate broke nearly instantly.
Hence the rubber band treatment.
It looks like the subsequent cases are much sturdier or better-designed. _________________ DBCooperVO.com
