Ok, so last summer, I had a character demo made. Then I had some family shenanigans break out right when it was wrapping up and to be honest I haven't done anything with it since then.

I'd like opinions...some parts of it I'm happy with, others not so much. And overall, I'm not super-crazy about how it's mixed...this is actually the second mix...the first had the sfx and music so hot that you could barely hear me. This one's better, but the voice still sounds low. (I think the studio where I recorded this is closed. I do have the ProTools files, but no ProTools)

Beyond that I just don't think I can be objective about it so I'm looking for peoples' input on what in here works and what doesn't, etc.

There's one part in particular...the 3rd and 4th bits I think are too similar-sounding and I don't like 4 in general.

Constructive suggestions much appreciated in advance!

It's here

Well you've got talent there's no question about that. I don't feel qualified to judge the characters so I'll leave that to others.

4th read... I don't hate it but it is similar to 3. Maybe you just need to split them up.

I don't like the ending with "what are you eating" It.. being punny... left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd end with something else that either feels more conclusive or really says "I gotta have Lou!" That one does neither.

Technically, yeah, the music and effects are too loud. It sounds to me like maybe it was never mastered. A little EQ and maybe a multiband compressor would help a lot. Of course, since you've got the session files I guess you could just get someone to turn it all down some too. It's really a matter of making the mix sound right as to which, or both, would be better.

Lou,

If you're not in a huge rush, I use Pro Tools and would be happy to help you re-mix. I can't promise I have all the plug-ins used by the other studio so some adjustments would certainly have to be made, beyond merely adjusting levels. I think your performances are excellent here. And unlike Brian, I actually kind of like the way this ends; but that just underscores the fact that different people are going to react to things in different ways.

My first thought was that the Bed and SFX were a bit two forward aka hot. I had to work to pick out the VO. As far as likening or not likening I’m leaning toward liking.

Take Bob up on his offer and I think you and others will enjoy the demo more.
