John Florian was kind enough to write an article about me in Voiceover Xtra:

What a nice guy!

He is a nice guy - as Frank Burns said - "It's nice to be nice to the nice."

I'll chime in with a "ditto" on John Florian.

Very helpful. Very knowledgeable, and if you ever really want to know how Google Analytics works...ask Florian... he lives and dies by the numbers, and can even tell you what they mean!

Congratulations Tom. I hope all this great exposure leads to many sacks of cash delivered to your door.

Thanks, Joe. No extra cash so far, but I have acquired sixteen new members of the GKN, including our own Todd Ellis. A number of them are from LA who read Backstage West. One found me on Nextcat and another on MySpace. That means they're actually doing some research.

It makes me wonder about the thousands of actors across the country who read Backstage, but only sixteen of them got off their duff and did something. A commentary on people? The industry? Is networking that much of a secret? Would the majority of people rather not be bothered?

Tom, it merely a commentary on how people choose to spend their time.

Joining GKN is spiffy, but is not the the article of comparison for "getting off one's duff".

You're probably right, Deirdre. I may have been a bit off-base.

I have noticed that often, success is not necessarily based on major life-changing decisions. Usually it's the result of a series of small, day-to-day decisions over a long period of time. Being a part of this wonderful forum or joining my group are examples of those. I guess I was just wondering out loud why more people don't realize that the key to greatness is to be consistently good. The VO industry isn't the lottery, it's an investment bank.

Amen to that!

And as people invest their money in myriad places, and the paths of excellence are blazed in myriad ways.

This joint is just one nifty little bus stop.

As somebody once said to me, "Strive for perfection, settle for excellence"

It's a good way approach anything worth doing Smile

Kudos, Tom. I can also vouch for John as a professional, and a genuine nice guy.
