Was asked if a client can use only the voice from a commercial for their website. not sure if i should charge another fee, since this wasn't part of the original fee from 2 years ago. and also since it's 2 years later, should i charge a fee? if so, what would you suggest for an internet only commercial?

thanks folks!

I think you should charge a fee for that - it's an additional usage not covered in your original agreement, correct?

This is exactly what the writers were striking over, web re-usage. I would take the fee charged and look at a percentage of it, for a specific period of time only. This is something you can track as anyone anywhere can look at the internet! I think the writers got a 3 1/2 or 4% for their share. I would increase that as talent is paid at a higher scale. I would also take a look at the SAG & AFTRA sites to see what their conversion rate is. It's called residuals and they are our friends! Congrats!

Yup, that's right scott.

And that's what I was thinking too -- it's an afterthought not included in the original rate.

Question is how much? I was thinking my regional rate, since this place serves the tristate area. Any ideas/suggestions on that?

If you go to the aftra website - here

http://www.aftra.com/contract/ctvrates.htm

and then look at the 'Extension to the Commercial Contract FAQs' it goes into it in detail.

Basically, it's a multiple of the session fee.

hey jim,

Commercials straight to web are open to negotiation. But commercials intended for broadcast and then "moved to" or later used on the web are a multiple of the original session fee. I believe it's three times the session fee for one year of use.

PEACE.
