Hi, folks. I have a client who is interested in getting some kind of device, either hardware or software, that would transcribe voice narration. Do any of you know if such a device or program is available?
Thanks. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

I understand totally where Drew is coming from.
Finding such software would relieve one of the most time-consuming, tedious, and drudgery jobs in TV newsrooms everywhere: transcribing the interviews garnered in the field.
With all the amazing advances in TV news-gathering -- all of which have sped up the process -- this one task remains unchanged from 10 years ago.... and it's a pain.
I've been watching for years for software like this to come out. The algorithms involved amount to artificial intelligence, and is extremely challenging for programmers.
The Dragon software IS quite nice, pretty impressive...but it must be trained. That leaves it out of consideration for applying it to ANY voice captured in the field on any given day.
I'm impressed with the voice-menu systems available on many company's phone systems, where you can just -say- your answer, but again, it cues off of very specific and limited answers.
The Microsoft Voice Command software available on the MS Mobile 5.x and 6.x phones is quite impressive, especially considering it's one of the few times Microsoft has developed something of this quality and capability with a very economical programming code that fits on the limited memory of a mobile phone.
However, none of that stuff have I seen offered as free-standing software for the application Drew mentions.
I continue to watch.....and wait. It'll happen, someday.

I think we have a while to wait, considering the fact that even spell-check still has problems with our wonderful English language full of its there/their/they're, to/too/two, you're/your/yore, etc. |
