and now for something really exciting--another rates Q!
project: a package of 1x:30 1x:15 1x:10 tv and 1x:30 radio that potentially will be used for broadcast, for up to a year's use. voice + edit
a : corporate will send the package to its distributors (windows) and those distributors can decide whether or not to use them for local buys.
where: about 20 markets in the west, presumably none of them big (like LA).
i'm. totally. stumped. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Totally off the cuff....
:30 tv = $750 (I maybe low here, expecially if it goes big)
:15 tv = $500
:10 tv = $350
:30 radio = $350
Studio time $125 per x 3 hours (?)
Subtotal $2325
Package discount - 325
Total $2000 _________________ Jeff

Lady Diane,
What do you charge for a regional TV :30? What do you charge for Regional TV :15? What do you charge for Regional TV :10? What do you charge for a Regional Radio :30?
Add the amounts from the previous paragraph together. Now, add the amounts for each "potential" market at 35% (i.e.: 20 markets broadcast rate multiplied by 35%).
Create a contract which also stipulates a reporting page for each "potential" broadcast market, then each market where the spots are used should be paying you an additional 15% for each 13 week run for each spot aired.
Or you can be nice (which we know you will be) and charge the 15% each for the 20 markets broadcast rights and call it a paycheck.

Gee... It was so much easier to figure when it was $20 a holler.
I think Frank forgot to add in an extra 35% for fuel prices... somebody has to pay for it.
(Speaking of figures... I'm right in the middle of doing my taxes, and I'm getting excited! It looks like "they" owe me... so far.)

I think I've figured out how to make the math easy. I'm just going to post the numbers here and let the likes of Jeff and Frank help me figure it all out. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

This isn't rocket surgery folks. You all have rates for these individual items. Use that as your starting point and make adjustments for duration of run or usage from there.
This isn't a precision instrument, folks. Go with what your gut tells you is a fair rate for both you and the client. _________________ Jeff

Isn't that what I said... not quite so eloquently...?
Thanks Jeff, you said it using the K.I.S.S. system - my favorite.

guys--i've got a sharp mind. really, i do! this is a rather different, perhaps unorthodox (not in the negative sense) scenario, with potentials and the number of regional markets unknown. i figured some of us could learn something from anyone who chose to reply to this thread with his or her thoughts on the matter.
to compare, kafer's "how should i handle this?" thread is a fair parallel. i don't believe the new moderator was schooled on it.
just curious: anyone ELSE been faced with a similar scenario and crafted a bid with alacrity and little consideration?? _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Sorry if I came across as harsh, my comments weren't really directed at you. But the replies that came after sort of gave it a "duh, I dunno" attitude like no one knew anything about rates. I know they were joking around, but in a public forum, I don't think we want to seem like we don't know what we're doing. Even if we don't.
I hope you came up with a good bid. _________________ Jeff

I'm prolly sticking my nose where I shouldn't but... I think it might have been the use of the phrase "...it isn't rocket surgery folks..." that might have come across wrong. Just sayin'.
I'm glad Diane did post this question b/c I found Frank's reply very informative! This lil gig apparently has a number of unknowns (like what/how many markets it's going to air in). Interesting math.
That's why I was an English major. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

The term "rocket surgery" is a joke in itself. It's either "rocket science" or "brian surgery" so to say "Rocket surgery" implies a self-deprecating reference.
oh never mind. _________________ Jeff
