I took a quick look before I head off to beddy bye.... I like it. It's simple and easy to navigate.

My only suggestion at the moment - change the font to a sans serif font, like verdana.

Excellent!!!

A few things I noticed...

As has been stated before re: websites, you may want to consider NOT having your e-mail address on the site, in order to help keep spam down (spambots routinely "harvest" e-mail addresses from websites). You can use a form, instead, that processes server-side (if your hosting supports that) to abstract out the recipient's e-mail address.

Is it possible for you to remove the IceTemplates credit / link without violating any type of licensing agreement? I only suggest this as, since this is a professional organization that you're promoting on the site, you may want to consider not advertising that your site was based on a template.

A lot of your text butts right up against the edges of boxes or rules...you might want to play with your styles and allow for some white space to make it easier to read, etc.

On the Demos page, you show a web address of www.doctorpuff.com but the link isn't "hot"...was that intentional? Generally, if you're gonna show it, it's a good idea to make it hot so that people can just click on it. Just make sure to set it to open in a new window so that you're not sending them away from your site Smile

Finally, I think if you're going to talk about things like MOH and Production, you should have audio samples on those pages.

I will echo the recommendation for a different font on the right. Also, I would expect there to be a demo on the MOH page. On the "demos" page, I suggest a different color for the talent names. The blue on black is a bit hard on the eyes (IMHO).

OK, that was the negative stuff. On the positive, I like the simplicity of it and the links are easy to find. And I like the orange/yellow theme a lot.

To remedy the Email address issue (it's true, spiders will find it and your spam amounts will rise quickly), you can do what I did and make a button of your Email address that can still be a link.

I hope that made sense...

Good comment about the colors, Donovan!

The only thing is that making a graphic button of your e-mail address doesn't help at all...the spiders read the underlying code. The only way to get around it is to not have the e-mail address appear anywhere on the page, whether in plain text or in the code. That's why I mentioned the server-side form.

Hmm... interesting. On my first website, I had it with the normal link and got bombarded with spam. I then used the picture/link on my new site and I maybe get 2-3 spam Emails a week.

But I apologize Isaiah, for the incorrect info. Frown

Thanks guys (and gals) for all the input!

I love the new font. I added the extra space for the text where it was right at the end of the table but for some reason I couldn't do that on the message on hold page (further play required), I changed the link color to red (hope that’s better).... I'm really not a graphics guy and my wife pointed out the same thing last night. She say's I'm not generally "color coordinated" what ever that means Sticking out Tongue.

I tried to gray out the template credit more, I’m going to have to review the license again because I did make a lot of changes to the design and color, perhaps it’s different enough to call my own. I took the e-mail down with the exception of the contact page. I need something other then what front page offers because I don’t have front page extensions (running a Linux server). That will take a little time.

I have a message on hold and production demo on the way with in a few days! (got a good one from Pizza hut waiting for them to send me the final cut).

Thanks again!

It looks like you're using inline font declarations - the fonts are included in your HTML. You may have better luck using CSS to get things to look the way you want, which makes it easier to maintain the site anyway.

I sent you a PM...

Ok, here's some info on CSS (Cascading Style Sheets):

CSS files are just text files that follow the CSS rules or as is commonly called in computer-ese, syntax.

So the first thing you'd wanna do is make a copy of a page to work on, such as your home page. You're going to keep the original for reference, and then in the new one, remove all of the existing formatting, so that there are no fonts, sizes or colors (etc.) specified.

Now you can start by creating your style sheet.

As an example, I've grabbed your site and put it here:
http://www.genusus.com/gnet/goldenknight/

The style sheet I created, which is only applied to the home page, looks like this, and the file is called gkm.css:

Code:
a:link {
   color: #6F3E16;
   text-decoration: underline;
}

a:visited {
   color: #555555;
   text-decoration: underline;
}

a:hover {
   color: #000000;
   text-decoration: underline;
}

.home-left {
   font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
   font-size: 11pt;
   font-weight: bold;
   color: #000000;
   text-align: center;
}

.nav {
   font-family: Arial, sans-serif;
   font-size: 11pt;
   color: #000000;
   text-align: center;
}

.columnheads {
   font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
   font-size: 11pt;
   font-weight: bold;
   color: #FFFFFF;
   text-align: center;
   padding-top: 10px;
   padding-bottom: 10px;
}

.columntext {
   font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
   font-size: 10pt;
   color: #FFFFFF;
   margin-left: 7px;
}

.clientshead {
   font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
   font-size: 11pt;
   font-weight: bold;
   color: #000000;
   text-align: center;
}

.clientstext {
   font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
   font-size: 11pt;
   color: #000000;
   text-align: center;
}

.copyright {
   font-family: Arial, sans-serif;
   font-size: 8pt;
   color: #FFFFFF;
   text-align: center;
}

It may look daunting, but once you use it you'll realize it's not that bad...

The first part is the name of your class, and classes need to start with a period (.) so for example the class for the left column of your home page is called

.home-left

The curly brackets just go at the start and finish of each class, so that the browser knows what's included. This is why you see the { after the class name and the } at the end of it.

Then you've got the actual bits that make up the style. There are loads of them (more on that later) but I just used some basic ones. They include the property you want to set, followed by a colon, then the value that that property should be, then a semi-colon at the end of that property.

I tried to make it pretty obvious from each of the class names what part of the home page they apply to. The styles for a:link, a:visited and a:hover are what control the styles of hyperlinks, such as those in your navigation. Hover should be the last one specified if you want it to properly change the style of a link when a user mouses over it.

Then in your home page, inside the <head></head> someplace, you need to put this line:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="gkm.css">

This will tell the page to use that style sheet. Where you want to apply a particular style, instead of just this:

<p>Your solution for:</p>

...instead, you'd do this...

<p class="columnheads">Your solution for:</p>

And then the styles are applied & rendered properly when the browser displays the page.

There are lots of great reasons to use CSS, but in terms of site maintenance, it's fantastic because now all of your styles are in one place. If you want to change the color of your links, just change it one time in the style sheet - every page that uses that style sheet will display the new style because they're all just referring back to that style sheet rather than having the fonts etc. specified individually each time they're used.

You'll notice that I made a couple of small changes, such as making your two columns a bit wider ("Your Solution For:" and "Why Use Us?") so that we could add a little white space in the text below the headings. Also, I made that text (in the bottom part of the columns) a bit smaller so that it doesn't wrap, making it easier to read.

And you'll notice that a side effect of doing all of this with CSS is that, since the underlying code in the home page is cleaner now, things like the two rules in those two columns now line up, whereas on the original, they're at different heights.

There's a lot you can do with CSS, and you can find tons of references online at places such as this:

http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

Hope this helps!

Well it took me a little bit to figure it all out but after a while it finally clicked. The whole website is now CSS, thanks a bunch Lou!

Isaiah,

I like the CSS version of your site a great deal. My only suggestion for improvement is that at least in Firefox 2.x on my system, the hot link text on the contact page is too dark. I almost can't see that there's an email on the page. Otherwise, I think you'd done a super job.

Isaiah,

You can fix that by adding something like this to the CSS file:

.body a:link {
color: #FFC001;
text-decoration: underline;
}

.body a:visited {
color: #FE7300;
text-decoration: underline;
}

.body a:hover {
color: #FFFFFF;
text-decoration: underline;
}

This will make those links over the black background pop more, but will only affect text that you've specified the .body class for.

Lou

You might want to do the same thing for your .demo class, but this is another fun thing about CSS...you don't need to duplicate the whole class. For those three classes, modify them so that they also include the .demo class, like this:

.body a:link, .demo a:link {
color: #FFC001;
text-decoration: underline;
}

Notice that in the first line, I added a comma afer .body a:link then the .demo a:link after that.

This is a way to apply the style to multiple classes at a time.

Do this, and the same thing for those other two new classes, and you should be good to go on the Demos page as well.

Isaiah,

In Firefox, the email link on the contact page continues to be very dark. I can see it now, but hover makes it disappear into the background completely.
