There are certain types of games I prefer to play on the PC, aside from the ones that aren't on the 360. It's just more intimate.
Racing games, though (as an example) are much more fun, to me, on the 360, even if they're available on the PC. _________________ Lou Zucaro

What are you going to use it for?
An office machine for internet, billing, record v/o work, full production and database management with - like an agent/producer?
Strictly v/o recorder, no production, no internet, etc? |

I feel you. I'm running two 19 inch LCDs and I don't think I'll ever be able to give up the real estate. I love running Audition in dual screen. Makes things so much faster. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Why choose?
I have 3 desktops and 2 laptops here.
Wow, how times have changed. 10 years ago it was 4 TVs and 1 computer. Now it's 1 TV and 5 computers. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

I can't speak to the 1212, but I have the 1616M PCI and I'm pretty happy with it. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Something to consider would be a docking station for a laptop. That way you can use the laptop and your favorite mouse, keyboard and monitor with it.
I would request XP before Vista if I were going Windows. (Or just buy a copy of "2000" on E-Bay like me. <g> ) Eventually, I want to go Mac or Linux. |

Desktop.
I run WindowsXP on a desktop, OS-X on an Apple laptop, and Linux on a laptop docked to behave as a desktop. Each has a specific purpose and use, dictated by the software I run.
The OS/hardware will be determined by the editing/production suite you select. Start with that. Find a package you're comfortable with, then build the hardware around it.
And, don't be distracted by toys and fancy knobs and buttons. |

Blasphemy! Isn't that contrary to the whole point of most of the Gear forum? _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

Now, if there were flashing lights, and they changed colors, like, wow. I'd get even less done!
Flaspots, thank you for mentioning software. I'm using SoundForge Audio studio right now, but it doesn't have the plugins I need, so I'm either going to upgrade to the grown-up version, or try something else. Maybe start a new thread? |

I have no familiarity with SoundForge, so I can't offer any assistance. Is there a DAW topic on this board? |

Hart and anyone else running dual monitors--
I am still shopping for the new computer. Now they are telling me to consider two side by side monitors instead of one big 24 incher.
Why? How does that work with Audition or whatever? _________________ Wild Willie Edwards

I used dual-monitors with ProTools for a couple years... editing window on one screen, mixing window on another. I much prefer having the one big screen we got when we upgraded to a newer version since I rarely used the mixing window in the first place... it was wasted space for me for the most part. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

Willie,
I upgraded to a 24" and love all the real estate. With that, 2 monitors is probably superfluous. _________________ Be well,
