Hi folks. I've been a lurker for a little while now. I worked on my website, got it completed, got business cards together, and then landed a narration job for a very interesting project (http://www.mysteryofsaipan.com) along with the voice mail for a local company, and got somewhat distracted. (The war documentary will be coming out in late April or early May, I believe - and I also sang a version of "I'll Be Seeing You" for the project. If anyone's interested in hearing it, feel free to PM me and I'll send you a link. )
Just logged back on here a few days ago to catch up with things and I've been on the VoiceoverSavvy.com and Voice-Overs.com message boards too, asking questions ... hopefully not making a nuisance of myself.
I've been a singer for many years. I've also read books on to tape for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, though that was in '95-'96. And I've volunteered my time over at Librivox.org. For the last 12 years, I've been in Internet marketing. One of the early adopters. And my songwriting site at http://www.musesmuse.com was my guinea pig for most of those years. Still is. But frankly, while I enjoy doing such work for myself, the constant education of potential clients is ... wearing. So after much consideration and discussion with my long suffering husband, I've decided to pursue this business of voice over much more seriously.
I've invested in the equipment for a small home studio: A Rode NT1-A mic, an Omega Lexicon pre-amp unit that plugs into my laptop computer via USB, a Reflexion filter screen and using both Cubase LE and Audacity (I'm on a PC rather than a Mac, in case that wasn't obvious). There's a hugely steep learning curve, but I'm getting the hang of it and am completing demos on a regular basis for Voices.com (where I have a Premium account. I'm on Voice123.com too, but only with a free account. I don't find them quite as user-friendly.). I'm also constantly making contacts all around me. You never know where your next job is going to come from.
I have realistic goals. I'd like to eventually be able to make a living at this, but I'm not expecting that to happen in the first year. Maybe not even in the first five. I have other, self-employed-type income streams from which to at least contribute to my household. But I also know what it takes to be in a business where one is self-employed. It's a long, hard haul. I'm ready for it. Partly because I just find this work so much FUN. And partly because I've been spending as much time as possible in studios just about all my life. I love them. It made sense to pursue the passion.
I've done some new demos - both a narration and a commercial one - with SuchAVoice.com and I'm just waiting for the final mix now. We did the recording in a local studio (I'm about 45 minutes north of Toronto Canada) with one of their producers listening in and directing via a phone patch and it seemed to go very well.
And every day, I learn something new. That's why I joined here. To keep on learning.
Thanks for reading the novel, folks. I look forward to getting to know you all!
All the best,

Welcome Jodi!
I checked out your website. I was trying to figure out what voiceover sand vocals were... sometimes it goes right over my head.
Enjoy your time on the VO-BB. It's a great place to relax and share.
Have fun. _________________ "Bailey"

Thanks, Dave! I also just landed a bit for a shopping mall in the Victoria BC area ... Right now, it's just a tagline at the end of their commercials on a couple of local Vancouver/Victoria radio stations (Rogers owned) but the client has said they want me to do three 30 second commercials for them at different times during the year ... so we'll see how that goes. Looking forward to it! _________________ Jodi Krangle @ voiceoversandvocals.com

Hey Jodi!
Welcome!
Yep...I'm here too...actually I spend A LOT of time here....that "always online" thing again!
Check out the archives...you'll get SO much info!...and yeah...threadjacking is a way of life here, but you learn a lot along the winding way!
(& don't mind Todd, he's harmless!)

Hi Liz! Good to see you here. Oh, I don't mind the threadjacking. I have my own message board, actually. It's for songwriting, so a bit different (you can check it out here, if you'd like), but I SO sympathize with the running of this one. If I can stay sane there, I can stay sane here.
And like you, I'm pretty much attached to the Internet with a brain chip. _________________ Jodi Krangle @ voiceoversandvocals.com

Jodi,
Saw you on the other boards (all together: "there are other boards"?) and I'm glad you surfaced here.
This place is tops. Virtually drips with class and lots of fun. A real caring and accepting group of pros.
Wonderful to have you here.
