looking for some direction.
i'd like to send my cherished rca 77dx off for a much needed overhaul. new ribbon - and whatever else the experts say it needs. i have emailed enak several times - but have gotten no response. i know that's who bill (and probably others here) used - but if there are others with solid reps. i will try them. OR if someone has an "in" with enak - please let me know. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I like Enak and Wes Dooley (www.wesdooley.com)
Both are good folks, and Wes has truly helped to bring the Ribbon back to a place of prominence within the recording industry.
I think he's still doing maintenance for a lot of folks on their vintage mics, so it might be worth giving him a holler.
Peace. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

ENAK - 856.589.6186
He's one of those guys who spends more time repairing than using email. He does the repairs then calls you with the bill. Although some complain about this, remember, his standard customer is someone who absolutely loves their little piece of history, be it personal or occupational. Rates are usually around $300 for a good cleanup, new ribbon and new cables (if need be). _________________ Genus |

I had ENAK do an RCA Varacoustic for me. I didn't have any luck with him responding to the email link on his web site, but he does answer the phone.
The mic looks and sounds great!.

Here ya go Todd, I hope this works.
There are a couple of little paint wrinkles he just painted over. I wish he'd sanded them down, but I doubt it's worth sending it back. We debated whether to even paint it. He said it was one of the nicer Varacoustics he'd had in the shop.
New paint, ribbon, cord, silk for $245.00

looks REALLY nice, craig. the man does excellent work!
the quote for the 77-dx was $275 - downright reasonable in my book.
now the shock mount & the yolk is gonna run me another $325 - yikes! _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

A vote here for ENAK. I had my "77" reworked in 1998 and it still works great. Clarence Kane did a fantastic job. Next, I'd probably like a new "RCA" logo on the mic. The red is worn off. But, again, it hung above the Washington DC Symphony for years. |
