I just ran across this story from the author of an article in a 1973 Road & Track magazine. (http://www.bmwbmw.org/bmwforums/viewtopic.php?t=8693)
The R&T article inspired the song "Red Barchetta" from the band Rush. It is a great read about how the author and the lyricist/drummer of Rush, Neil Peart, met years later for a motorcycle adventure.
I enjoyed it and thought someone else might get a kick out of it, too. |

Ack! My eyes. Moving on:
I have tickets for the 4/23 show here in Austin; it'll be my fourth time seeing them.
Peart got into motorcycling after bicycling pretty much everywhere in the world. He even rides solo between gigs when on tour, eschewing the relative comfort of the bus. Oh, and he's a pretty good drummer too. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

I've seen 'em twice. Power Windows tour...and, my first time, opening for Ted Nugent at the LA Forum in 1977...the 2112 tour!
I've heard Peart was pretty decent on drums myself. Maybe there's some future for him in this? Geddy could go for a career in acting...as the Wicked Witch of the West...he's already got the nose. :) _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Dan-O,
WOW, thanks for that!
I have always wanted to read that story.
I remember trying to find the R&T magazine in the high school library in tenth grade. (Never did!)
Neat stuff and a great find!!
Thanks a bunch!
Jeffers
I saw the GUYS last year on the S&A tour. Great show!

Great story - thanks for sharing the link - I shared it with some colleagues that are either Big Rush fans, or BMW motorcycle fans.... has anyone read Neil's books? |

I have a couple shots like that too, Bob. I have met Geddy three times, Alex twice and Neil zip. Neil does not do the meet and great thing. My being a drummer, that is a big disappointment.
I have read two of his books: The Masked Rider (a bicycle journey through West Africa) and Ghost Rider (a motorcycle ride to save a man's soul.) MR was more or less a journal of his trip. GR was a pretty good read. I couldn't imagine going through that healing process, though. My wife picked up Traveling Music for me, but I just haven't had the time to read it, yet. It sits alongside 11 other book I haven't finished.
EDIT: And, yes, I have tickets to the Cincinnati show. I have lost count how many times I have seen them. |
