So I was at Lowes. With a long list of stuff I was totally clueless about. Plumbing stuff. While the nice man was gathering what I needed in one aisle, I wandered into another. And there I saw it. The button that said 'press for service'.

I HAD to do it.

As Connie's voice resonated through the store I ran back to the other aisle to tell the nice man that he could ignore it...I think I actually muttered something about having to hear Connie's voice. He gave me an odd look, gingerly handed me all sorts of tubes and pipes and rubber things and then went to shut the thing off because Connie was still talking.

That was fun.

So we've established the fact that you know how to get Connie going...

Well done Melissa!

So now I see you standing there in the middle of Lowes, arms full of tubes and pipes and rubber things, snickering to yourself in glee like Muttley.

Does sound like fun!

Hmmmm.... I think I'll have to make a trip to Lowes soon.

Running from department to department... pushing buttons... It sounds like fun.

That you HAD to do it was funny! In my local store, apparently everyone needs help constantly, or they're understaffed, because you wouldn't have had to do anything but wait a few seconds & you'd hear Connie. Nearly nonstop soundtrack!

One employee I know told me that he plans to sue the company for harassment...so be good and STOP PRESSING THE BUTTON! (Someone will do it soon enough!) Go to Kohl's instead and listen for the cool father's day promotion - a chance to win a trip to a taping of Throwdown with Bobby Flay.

Lowes has actually just opened a couple of stores in Toronto and I've been meaning to pop in just to see if they have Connie here too Smile

I'll let you know....

?? Wha' ? No residuals in buttonpressland??

It WAS fun. And I actually had waited for a bit... ok, the minute and a half from when I thought of it until I actually pressed it.

But I DID snicker when the nice man gave me a funny sideways look and scurried off after my mumbled explanation.

Wanted to push it again, I did... But I refrained.

Is it weird that when I'm in Lowe's, (even if accompanied by my wife) I say "Hey Connie" whenever the button(s) are pushed?

If only I were joking...

I know you jest...if only...

No, this company installs the announcement systems in the stores - they are not the stores themselves.

Years and years ago I tried to negotiate a per page/per client rate, but they wouldn't go for that - before me, they were actually paying talent by the hour to come into a room and record in the corner. I was able to work a page rate - and they send me work every week - so as long as I can work it in, I'll do it. They are a great client - organized - professional - send me phonetic spellings...and I love the "testimonials" that come through on a regular basis - my favorite "You Rock!"
