Well, actually it is ... sort, of. Yesterday I got the great delight of spending a bit of "in person" time with one of my favorite voiceover people (yes, I have many favorite voiceover people, but Rowell is certainly among them) Rowell Gormon.
Rowell was in Charlotte as part of a traveling Mystery Theatre troupe performance for a corporate event at the Hilton in the city center.
As you can see from his costume, Rowell plays the gumshoe. He also got into his role a bit too much. Here he's reaching for his handcuffs. I'm still not sure why I'm smiling.
We had a great time talking about all kinds of topics, including of course lots about voiceover. Rowell also introduced me to the other members of his troupe, each one as charming as can be. (And he did take the cuffs off before I had to leave.) _________________ Be well,

The pics of people with Bob are always so much fun! Where in the world is Bob Souer? We need to have a frapper map just for Bob's visits with VO-BB folk! _________________ Playing for a living...

Wow... seems like a good time. I'll tell you, those two are an awesome pair of guys. Both of them have been major parts of my growth and success as a VO. Seriously, you guys are awesome.
As far as smiling about him putting handcuffs on you... I'll leave the comments to Todd. _________________ Donovan

Connie,
The cool thing is, in this case, I didn't have to go anywhere. Rowell came here to Charlotte. And Donovan, you've contributed more to my voiceover career than you know. You're very welcome for what little I've added to your path. _________________ Be well,

Okay Bob, another grown man, who is a "friend" is putting handcuffs on you.
A "special friend" indeed.

/ironically, the first thing I learned at college was how to get out of police issue handcuffs using a paperclip

By the way, you may have noticed that these photos are rather more clear than my usual dim, phone camera, snaps. That's because my wife, Cinda, surprised me on our anniversary on Tuesday with a brand new Samsung 10MP digital camera so that I would always have a good, compact digital camera with me when I travel. These were the first VO-BB shots with that camera, with many more to follow. It's the NV10, which is about as slick and nifty a little camera as one could want. _________________ Be well,

Dave,
The photos were taken by one of the other members of that Mystery Theatre troupe with whom Rowell was working on Wednesday. _________________ Be well,

the pix were shot by great friend and fellow actor/vo kaki carl. and yes, they came out great...i don't think there was even a flash used.
our "It's a Mystery" comedy/mystery group had another photog following us yesterday, doing pictures which will eventually accompany a write-up in Southern Living magazine. he was showing us his own digital cameras before the show and as a life-long proponent of film i was mightily impressed with what these chips can do.
i'd originally planned to un-cuff bob after he'd told me everything he knew...but soon realized that might take years, so i had to let him go.
thanks, bob, for the great visit! _________________ rowell gormon

Aw, I love those pictures!! What a wonderful duo I'm completely pumped to finally meet Rowell in just a few hours and see my dear friend Donovan
Hopefully we'll have another picture to add to the collection! _________________ Threadjackers local 420
