Oh yes. No studio is complete without a Lava Lamp. However, the colour of the Lava Lamps should be carefully considered. Red and green are good as they are most likely to match the colours of the equipment LEDs for that total coordinated cool vibe effect.
Coloured oil wheel projectors are OK for a more retro vibe.
Glitterballs should be avoided completely.
And no studio can ever be complete without an SM57.

Mess is good. Those pics I posted were not a representation of reality. This is what it really looks like.
And that was on a good day, as my wife will tell you.

Okay, I'll weigh in... Here's what I have for a setup.
While I try to be a clean freak... it's very rare that my space looks this clean!
And right behind the desk is ....
The booth is a double walled and insulated box lined with sonex (or whatever brand the cheap stuff is!)... it's pretty crude, but it really does the trick!
Anyway, that's my little escape from the world! _________________ Brian Forrester Voice Overs

Kudos on the furniture, Drew! Are you related to Norm Abram?
Oh! and Mike, you wrote:

You can get it for $20! I've A/B'd it to the Shure and it's a bit louder, and a dead ringer...or a Beh-ringer...for the Shure. My Godson bought a Behringer PA package (mics and amp) for playing gigs and brought a couple over to try for recording. (Of course he and I use the RCA 77 for vocals. I talk...he sings. LOL)
Another mic I want to try is the KEL HM-1. I've also heard great things about the Audio Technica AT2020. OK...I'll stop now. LOL |

Yikes! Wasn't expecting such a round of praise. Thanks so much everyone!
I knew I had a shot of my modest little studio sitting on a server somewhere, and when I found the pic, I remembered I had the furniture stored there, too. I figured, I'd show folks what I do when I'm not working at the TV station, voicing, trying to raise a pre-teen, blah, blah, blah.
My father, a Polish cabinet maker, taught me the craft. It's helped pay the bills during those lean times. I'm just now getting back into the shop since breaking my leg in August (tripped over weed eater while trying to negotiate one single step) Standing for any length of time can still be painful. So, I can only work for short periods.
It's certainly something I'll stay with. As for the voiceing. I donno. That's still an experiment. Some days I listen to my stuff and think, that's pretty good. Other days I listen and wonder why I bother. Lately, it's become a real PITA.
Anyhoo, I really appreciate the comments. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com
