I don't know what prompted the headline of the day here at vo-bb, but I can imagine.

I'm not a regular coffee drinker, but I can recommend Zabar's Special Blend (from Zabar's, at 81st & Broadway). Cram a tall glass with chocolate ice cream and then fill the glass with brewed coffee.

Zabar's - cheese...I remember fondly the Brie that went to Queens...

New York City - larger than life as the early train from Hudson pulled into Grand Central Station. A day pass - all the trains, buses and subway rides you can cram into a day for a paltry sum. First stop Zabar's - 10 pounds of Brie in a huge wheel was crammed into a small backpack as we set off on a whirlwind day filled with part errands, part art and lots and lots of transportation.

That Brie went to the Museum of Art and had lunch at a fine Indian Restaurant. That Brie wandered Central Park and then went to Queens to try to see an exhibit by an across the street neighbor but was turned away as the Queens College Gallery closed early the day after Christmas. Warmed at the Dunkin Donuts across the street, the Brie returned to town to buy a teapot in China Town and dine on noodles and shrimp. That sleepy Brie made the last train and arrived at its final destination just as the new day arrived.

Zabar's at 81st & Broadway. That brings back fond memories of days gone by. Amazing coffee. Everything was amazing there.

Coughee....yuk....can't even stand the smell of it!

No-Doz works just as well without the bitter taste.

I'm with you Dave.

Bitter = bad. I don't even like dark chocolate.

Our AP brought in a bag of... wait for it... Snickerdoodle Coffee yesterday.
It was one of the most disturbing coffee drinking experiences I've had in a loooong time.

Maybe you're suppose to dip the Snickerdoodle into the coffee... and then pour the coffee down the drain?

I'm on board with the coffee haters--love the smell, hate the taste. And the aftertaste? YUCK and a half.

I have heard, however, that some of the best coffee anywhere can be found at Monmouth Coffee in London's Borough Market (see below). They make each cup fresh to order in its own individual filter, and apparently the take-home beans are very good as well (according to my coffee-swilling friends who went nuts for the stuff when we were there in April and my java-crazed roomies who finished off the bag I brought home in an embarrassingly short period of time).

Only like sweet coffee - flavored with hazelnut and hyped up on splenda and milk. Don't brew at home, unless it's cold out (rare).

Oh, CourVO, tequila.... mmmm... back in the day I was known to throw back a couple of tequila shots on a Friday/Saturday night. Those were the days.

About 15 years ago I was in San Francisco and had a Peet's coffee in one of their shops there. Been a Peet's lover ever since. A stiff mug of that gives a most happy jump start to the day.

I must admit freshly ground coffee from Zabars is pretty special too. Just walking through the place is a lovely adventure!
