Hi all,
If anyone has a few minutes, I'd appreciate some feedback.
I'm in the process of updating, well, all of my VO tools. I'm starting with the commercial demo, designing a "real" website (instead of the painfully plain vanilla one I've got) will probably be next, a new narration track will probably follow, and then I'll look at the possibility of new tracks. I started this process before VOICE 2008 by starting to work with a coach, and I got some good ideas at the conference to move forward.
One thing I took from the conference was that no one approach to demo production is right for everyone. I think that for me the best approach will be to highlight my strong suit and show range around it. I'm then hoping to work on some branding around that strong suit.
I have some thoughts on my VO strengths, and I know my coach does as well. But I'm hoping to get some input from people who understand the business, but don't know me personally, just to see if others are hearing something that I'm not focusing on, or maybe even aware of.
So if anyone has a chance to listen to my commercial track at http://www.richvoice.net, I'd really appreciate it if you could boil down into a word or short phrase what, if anything, stands out to you as a strength.
I'm not looking for a critique of the demo itself. I already know there's not enough variation, it's a bit long, several clips weren't great choices, etc. Hopefully all of those things will be corrected with the new track!
Thanks,
Rich |

You've made A DEMO not YOUR DEMO. You're in there somewhere but most people with money to spend on Voice Talent do not have the time to go digging.
Ask yourself, what on your demo gives you the edge? If you can't answer that question, start again.
Like everyone you have a 95% chance of failure as a Voice so start working on getting that number down, 1% at a time. |

Hey Philip, long time no hear! Hope all is well with you across the pond. You pointed me to this board several years ago, and I visited a couple of times but then lost track of it. I wish I'd stuck around, I'm sure I've missed a lot in the past few years!

I've already asked myself that question, and answered it. I'm just looking for some external input. Sometimes we have blinders on about ourselves. I'm not going to make decisions based entirely on what others say, but if several people mention something positive that they noticed that I hadn't been focusing on, I might re-examine the direction I want to go; at the very least, it'll be something to discuss with my coach.
Cheers,
