Hi All - I've asked this on another forum or 2 but NOONE seems to be able to give me an answer - so I thought - Try here:
I have a THAT-1 - THAT I DON'T want to get rid of or replace - BUT the phone I had it hooked up to no longer works - if it really ever did (That's another story)- Yes it has the keyboard on the phone and not in the handset, Yes - I KNOW the THAT-1 is working correctly as I had it sent back and checked out and I HAVE looked at all the specs on the TYPE of phone you're supposed to use with it- BUT nowhere can I find a list of phones - Single Line - that I can purchase to work with it - and no I can't afford to buy the THAT-2 at this stage which I was told works with every phone - Any ideas anyone? or do you guys know of a phone - make & model that DEFINITELY works with the THAT-1?

From what I know (but I never used it myself) you can use virtually any phone with a THAT-1. I verified this by checking the manual I found online. Just hook your THAT-1 up between your -new- phone and its handset and you're good to go. Connect via the modular plugs that come with a standard telephone or telephone line, whether it be analog or ISDN.

And welcome to the forum!

Hi - Thanks I've visited many times but for some reason never joined until recently!
And NO - with the THAT-1 - ONLY certain types of phones can be used- I don't have my manual in front of me - BUT - here it is from the site -
Compatible with electret handsets only
MOST of the phones you buy - (EVEN WITHOUT the keypad in the handset - are NOT electret - I seem to remember someone saying Southwest Bell or something like that - BUT only certain models
anyway - IF anyone has one AND is using it with a single line phone - Maybe you could give me the make and model - I would REALLY appreciate it!

I found the manual to your THAT-1 HERE. I also found a company that sells replacement electret handsets for major phone brands. And if you type 'electret handset' in Google, you get a zillion hits Wink

Hope it helps.

Have you tried calling JK Audio?
Since they sell the THAT-1, they may well know the brands it works with.

Yep - did that as well - but they DON'T a have a list - I've tried everything - So I have been posting - but most people don't understand what I mean - so it's hard - and the THAT-1 DOES NOT work with all phones - even JK will tell you that - and I obviously do NOT want to buy the THAT-2 - and then get rid os the THAT-1 and take a loss - I'm not rolling in dough ....yet!!
So that's why I JUSt need a phone - a complete phone - and no use calling any telephone companies as believe it or not they are not up on electret vs non-electret - so out of luck there as well -AND as you know MOST phones these days that are landline - HAVE the keypad IN the receiver which as you know does not work for our purposes - SO.... Can you since my frustration!!!

Then I'd probably take my THAT-1 to the nearest phone retailer or I dunno Radioshack or the like and try my luck @ the available models in the store... Who knows maybe the store owner might even be VERY helpful knowing that you specifically picked HIM to solve a specific problem. At least... that's what you should tell him! Smile

Maybe this will help

From the online info at JK AUDIO. (Used here for education purposes, and as such in compliance with US copyright law. )

"The THAT-1 will work with many different types of analog and digital PBX and ISDN telephones. The receive side of the THAT-1 (audio From Phone), will work on any telephone. To send audio into the telephone (To Phone), the telephone must have an electret type microphone in the handset. If your telephone has a round mouthpiece, or if you intend to use this product on many different telephones, you should consider our model THAT-2 which is compatible with a variety of telephone systems"

Phone with round mouthpieces tend to have CARBON BUTTON microphones.

Be bold, buy a phone. Just make sure it does not have a round mouthpiece

Best wishes
