|
|
I tried to find an answer in the archives, but I'm search-challanged....
I had to get a new computer (virus, bad). My Mia sound card doesn't fit into the new computer so I'm looking at getting an Mbox 2 or Mbox 2 Mini. They come with Pro Tools LE™ software.
Here's my question. If I get an Mbox....do I HAVE to use Protools? Or can I continue to use Soundforge or Audition?
Thanks!!!!! _________________ Moe Egan

Moe- I believe the M-Box is proprietary to ProTools. I have M-Box and use PT-LE, too. _________________ Bobbin Beam

Hi Moe,
Although it's no longer my setup, I have successfully used an MBox2 with Adobe Audtion 2. The Digidesign ASIO drivers should be selected from within Audition. (Select 48K)

reverse it around.
Protools can only work with Digidesign approved HW (like the MBox 2). However, other applications can utilize the MBox as well.
Do some googling... folks have been using these things with SoundForge (recently), AA, and other a s for some time now. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Moe,
When I'm traveling, I've often used Sound Forge with an MBox 2. Using Audition should be just as simple, as was noted above just choose the Digidesign ASIO drivers. _________________ Be well,

and make sure you're using an application with support for ASIO (earlier versions of AA were notorious for not having good support, but 2.0 and 3.0 are quite good) _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

i use my M-Box to play i-Tunes all the time. behaves like any other audio interface, although ProTools definitely capitalizes on all the capabilities of an M-Box (switching from analog to digital input, ferinstance) _________________ Jeff Berlin

Moe,
I recently went through all of this. If you are using Windows XP, you will probably be fine. HOWEVER, I went through this huge hassle, because The MBOX Mini, Adobe Audition3 and Windows VISTA do not play well together. Now I have a Mac, and I use my mini with Sound Studio. The great Anna Vocino and Dan Lenard are creditied for helping me make the switch....and I LOVE IT!
Hope that helps! |

Kim, there's a way to go into the properties for your drivers. Use that, do the same with AA and tell them to mimic a Windows XP environment when running.
I've gotten several devices without Vista drivers to run on the OS using that method, and more than a few other folks have been able to get their MBoxes to run as well.
Getting PT to work on Vista is another story... but that's a very touchy application. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I recently installed an Mbox2 with PT7.4LE on a HP Pavillion DV9000 laptop running Vista Home Premium and it works fine... I had to because I had two consecutive Macbook Pro's dying on me within two weeks of opening up the box. I do however prefer running PT on Macs though (no I'm not starting that 'war' again ...) |

FWIW, no problems here with running ProTools 7.4LE with Vista Business. (If I recall correctly, 7.4 is the first Vista-supported release.) _________________ --Michael

True Michael. Vista support started as of the 7.4 release. |

Who knows, maybe Vista will become the most stable platform upon which to run Pro Tools? This is what happens when you "cross the streams" (think Ghostbusters) _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
