VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

Hey guys.
A friend sent me some bounced session files via FTP --he sent them in SDII format because we thought it would be easiest, but the files are showing as unreadable. They were recorded on a Mac, I'm using a Mac.

He uploaded the folder that held them, and I downloaded the folder.
When I try to import them to my session, I'm getting the message "Audio 1_04.sd2 is unreadable by Pro Tools".

What the heck am I missing?

Hi There!
SDII format is readable and writable in Logic. Originated in soundedit16.
GarageBand doesn't specify SDII in preferences but I havn't tried it. There may be a little utility out there to convert... as I understand there is just a little header data that makes it SDII. Off to research....

Hi Again!
I just made an SDII file in logic, then opened in Quicktime, then export as AIFF or WAV. I do have quicktime pro, so I'm not sure if the regular player will export. But for $39 QT Pro is a handy tool!

I learned that some FTP transfers strip the headers off of certain sound files, making them unreadable on the receiving end.

We have bypassed the whole issue by re- converting the session to AIFF and not Pro Tools is happy here at Camp Cooper.

Ahhh, the pleasures of the computer... when doing the .ftp transfer - check to see how it reads and send the file... ASCII, binary, etc.

Another safe way is to .zip the file first then transfer the .zip file.

The "stripping" effect is due to several factors, one of which is firewall security. The firewall takes the headers and strips them so NO bad stuff can get through... this means pictures, audio files, attachments, etc. If you or the receiver is behind a firewall check the NAT.
