It's a USB audio interface that's the size of a pack of gum.

Frank reviewed it, I think.

Who has it and likes it?
Someone is asking me about it.

I've got one and I like it lots.
Sound quality is surprisingly good for its size.

I put one through the works at VOICE with a 416. Not bad for the VO on the go, but it made me miss my RADAR all the more.

/for the $ though, it's a good find.

Dierdre:
I just established a dealership with CEntrance to sell the MicPort Pro, that's how much I love it! I was showing it off at VOICE2008, which might be why you are hearing about it now. Yoda tested mine there. No, it's not an Avalon, or a RADAR, it is an affordable and practical unit for on the go use. I am using it in my new VO2GO system...

PLUG ALERT
If you buy it through me, it might take a little longer for it to arrive, but I will give you plenty of one on one support to deal with some of the quirks of this unit, such as driver setup in Windows. Heck, if you don't buy it from me I'll still help ya out Smile

While it might be fine for a "quick and dirty" recording, or podcast,
I don't recommend the MXL unit for several reasons.
1) No Zero Latency monitoring. You are forced to monitor yourself in a delay through your computer's on-board soundcard. The MicPort has a built in headphone amp.
2) No variable gain, only 3 gain positions, and doesn't give you enough gain for some mics.
3) Only 48K/16bit, which is fine for most VO users, but the MicPort does 96Khz/24bit sampling rate.
4) Not as clean preamp as the MicPort Pro.

The prob w/ the mic mate is it doesn't have a headphone in jack. There is a latency issue if you have to hear yourself through the computer instead of the usb interface. Having the mic plugged into the interface lets you hear yourself directly.

Hee, you pickin' on me? How often do I get to use that word?

The audio god hubby and I are heading out to try one today and since it's a tax-free weekend in MA it looks like we'll end up buying one. We're suckers for audio toys.

Never! Kiss
It's definitely worth it, especially if you want to have a mobile set-up.
Enjoy the shopping spree! Laugh
