|
|
Strange thing has been happening in the past 3 or 4 weeks with my Adobe Audition...
When I record a file - longer than lets say - a minute or so, the file becomes "Alvin the Chipmunk".
So I have half a file that is fine, then the Chipmunk half. I have been able to salvage the latter half of the files most times with the tools in Audiiton, but I am wondering if this is a soundcard issue?
ANy tips or thoughts, or a link to a thread about something similar?
Thanks Guys n Gals!

Well that's crazy! Have you tried rebooting your computer before you record? Every now and then I have to do that in order for Audition to run at it's full potential. I don't see how the sound card could distort it like that. Guess another options would be not to record that long! I will do 10 mins at a time then pause to save...oh and I run a DAT backup during each session in case some craziness like this occurs. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Stu, et al:
There can be several reasons for such a problem with AA. send me an email or PM and I will offer some suggestions.
Do you have an outboard hard drive? Is there a file on that drive set as your primary "Temp" file?
How is your ASIO set up?
Is your current drive partition full or very close to being full.
What are the setting in AA? Make sure latency and other issues are not a problem.
Do you have other audio programs which use your sound card settings? Are there priority programs for your sound card settings? Have you installed any new software lately?
Check to see if you sound card settings are properly initiated each time you use AA and there are no other audio programs operating at different settings.
O.K., those are just a few of the questions I would ask first, then we get into the nitty-gritty if your problem has not been solved.
Good luck and Toodles

I just recently had this problem briefly when I first set up my new "Audio" user on XP and did recording to a new external disk. If I ever changed a setting, old takes would be sped up and imported or re-opened saved takes would be ssssssssssllllllllllllloooowwwweed ddddooooowwwnn.
Once I had everything all set and most importantly my Temp and Recording files in the same area of my external drive everything was Hunky Dory (fat rowboat?). _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Thanks for the ideas...
Mandy - running Dat in the background is a good idea...Wish I had one!
Frank - I am running thru your list and will probably send you an email!!!!
Lance - I believe I have my files on the external hard drive in the same area...? |

Look in the "Systems" area of AA, check your Temporary Folders area. You will have two options to set, Temp Folder and Secondary Temp. The Temp Folder should be on the external drive. The Secondary Temp can be on any other drive of your choice. Set the Reserve to 1000 MB.
That might help.

By "Reserve" is that the same thing as "Wave Cache"? _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

The best way I can describe the Reserve Free function is to say the the Reserve Free value is the amount of free disk space that Adobe Audition can not access.
Setting aside disk space this way prevents Audition from filling the hard drive with recorded audio files. You need to have some space left for Windows to use as virtual memory.
Wave Cache will depend upon the amount of memory available on your computer. Changing the Wave Cache setting increases performance in Adobe Audition, "the more the better" in this particular case. If you have more than 512 MB RAM Cache on your PC, set the Wave Cache setting to at least 32768.
Hope that helps.

Hey Frank -
If I only have 512 of RAM on the computer - what should the Wave Cache be?
I appreciate the help - I have made the temp folder change to the external drive. I thought I had done this previously, perhaps I did not.
I have been under the weather, so I have not tried the new setting yet to see if this has helped the speedy gonzales-ness.
Thanks again! |
