I never met Don, but through those of you who had and have worked with him, I got a picture of a man who was a hell of a lot of fun and great at what he did. I'm sorry to hear of his passing and my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

I, too, am deeply saddened. What a genuine, nice, talented man. I'm honored I had the chance to meet him, listen to his sage advice, and share a laugh.

Rest in peace. To Nita and children, I wish you all the best and much strength in these times,

I add my love and sympathy to all the rest of the VO-BB gang's. Prayers go out from my heart to Don's spirit, and his family and associates. I was so excited the day that he became one of my 'friends' on the VO universe pages.

Blessings and love to you Don....

Having learned more about Don in recent months, it's obvious to me that he was at least as good a man as he was a voiceover artist...and that's saying quite a lot.

Prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

Such terrible news...I am so sorry Frown I never had the pleasure of meeting Don...but wished I could've. I took great pleasure in seeing all the pictures of Don with each of you at Voice 2007. From what I do know of him, he was a great man and human being. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all those who worked with him daily.

Rest In Peace Don....you were a very large part of my inspiration to do VO, thank you.

I never met the man, but just from what you'd see on his and Nita's websites, they seemed like a lovely couple with a lovely family...

I found this piece, today: Don on Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me from May 14, 2005.

Click "Listen to the whole show" and fast forward to 17:15.

My apologizes for the length of this and I am not trying to be a thread jacker. I just had so much to say and thought this was the best place to say it.

I had seen the message last night about Don's passing and I was saddened to hear the news. But, on the flip side I started to think of the huge pair of shoes he left behind that will never be filled. Don maybe gone from the physical world, but leave no doubt that any time anyone hears those heart stopping three words “In a World…” all will know and feel the spirit of The Don. I can’t think of anyone in any industry that has taken such a simple little phrase as “In a World…” and changed the entire face of that industry. Without The Don, “In a World…:” would just be three little words and a simple phrase that is part of another statement, or may not have existed at all. Don has given us the most memorable trailers of all time, and in some case his Zeus like voice was the best part of the entire movie. Until recently Don was just the massively impressive voice behind those beautiful trailers. But, with the Gieco commercials and those side achingly funny YouTube movies, to me Don became more than the voice of movies; he became a real life human being. I never did get a chance to meet The Don, which will forever be one of those unfulfilled tasks of my life, but I will be eternally grateful that he chose to share his unmistakably powerful voice with the entire world. Whenever I hear those three words “In a World…” or whenever I listen to a trailer, I know the Spirit of The Don will always be there influencing that Voice Actor to try as the may to voice their best version of The Don, but we all know there will never be another Don LaFontaine. Don is wonderful example of someone who was willing to take risks and follow the path he chose despite the fact it was not the popular path. He will always be my hero.

Thanks Don.

Humbly,
Jon
